Did you watch the whole thing, Revan? That scale of this game is astounding - from controlling a species through evolution from cell to sentience, to creating a culture and building technology, to heading out into space and colonising news worlds, all in one game. And the technology behind it, that allows everything to be fully customisable and works out the game mechanics based on your customisations.
...I'd say that was pretty amazing.

Only problem is the video quality, because Google expands it to fill the whole page, screwing up low res pictures (and giving me a bit of a headache).

Thanks for this, Murrin. Will Wright never ceases to amaze me. Really looking forward to this game.

That's rather impressive.

I bet my computer can't run it :(

This could be the greatest game ever however, I have some reservations. Seeing some of the weird alien designs (like the top-heavy bird) makes me hope you can selectively download them. I worry some players might make some ridiculous designs.

The voiceover mentions something about downloading other species based on the style of your own creations - the same for building and vehicle designs. Looks at your ecosystem and tries to match things up to it. It seems like it'll model your whole game around the way you play it.

Of course, as an automatic process it won't be foolproof...

Well it will only serve for my race to go out and purge the galaxy - to establish a purer universe ;)

You know, I might never leave the Arch of Time, if a game lets me make a corrupt universe.

I know revise my earlier statement... I only watched the beginning, where I basically thought I was looking at a flashly mose and cat game... I had no sound either, but I watched a lot more, and thought it looks amazing. :D

Very awesome-looking game. I do have a concern: Will Wright showed in his presentation how you could visit another planet in your UFO and check out whatever civilization was there. So far so good, but then he demonstrated how your UFO, if sufficiently armed, could blow up the entire planet if you didn't like the civilization there. The problem is that those worlds are not the CPU's creations, but other players' creations.

I wouldn't want some other player coming by and destroying in one shot a world that I had spent a lot of time creating. Wright used the word "asynchronous" to describe how you interact with other players' creations: I hope this means that the hostile player who wishes to destroy my world would merely destroy a copy of it that has been downloaded onto his machine, while my "original" is safe.

Yeah, definitely a sticky issue there. It's a good thing to know this game is in its very early stages. I except Maxis will iron out any chinks we currently see.

I've been gaming less and less. I thought Oblivion might be the last PC game I ever buy, but now Spore is looking to take that honor. In any case, I have full confidence Wright is going to blow us away. Still have uber-fond memories of SimCity 2000.

It means that it downloads the alien races but doesn't mean your universe (that has been populated with players' aliens) had other players in it. It's your game and the program merely finds aliens to fill it constantly. In another player's game your aliens will be downloaded for his pleasure, but you won't be there to control them.

Yeah - it downloads other players' planets to fill your universe. Players don't actually interact with one another.
