The more I watch this guy the more I think he would be right for the job.

Welcome to the Watch, steve!
Why don't you take yourself on over to The Summonsing, tell us a bit about yourself and get an 'official' welcome.

Re: Who could play TC?
Probably a bit too gaunt, but his American accent isn't too bad either (which is one of the things I think would put me off if a non-American were cast).Fugazi wrote:If you ever saw Christian Bale in The Machinist........ He would be excellent
One of the things that I have wondered about reading this thread is what kind of accent Covenant would have. Would he have any trace of a southern/southwest accent or would he have something more of a neutral accent? Where did he get his phrases with "bloody" in them? Outside of the UK and Australia, I have only ever heard the occasional use in Canada, so does he have Canadian or British roots?

Well, *I* use bloody. But mostly because Covenant does.
I envision him with a standard "Nowhere, America" accent.

I think they day Donaldson makes him say "y'all" he is dead to me.aliantha wrote:I envision him with a standard "Nowhere, America" accent.

It would make more sense I think, as a lot of people in the US are capable of developing that accent regardless of where they were brought up. My wife's is kind of like that for the most part, even though she was brought up in New Hampshire by two New Yorkers.

It's the media. They've got us all talking like we're from Iowa or something.

It's kind of funny how people do it around here though - if they're originally from here the accent is unmistakable, but some younger people try to disguise their southern accent, and they end up sounding like southerners impersonating someone from Beverly Hills. It's quite hard not to laugh sometimes...aliantha wrote:It's the media. They've got us all talking like we're from Iowa or something.

I like that suggestion. John Hurt would be ideal for TC but for the age factor.Dura Fairflank wrote:Has anyone suggested Ewan McGregor?
Viggo Mortensen as Mhoram is a good idea, too. I'd also propose Cate Blanchett as Elena. (In fact Viggo and Cate would be better cast as Mhoram and Elena than they were as Aragorn and Galadriel in LOTR).

I got this vision of Helena Bonham Carter as Linden. (Fortunately, it didn't last long...) I love them both, but I don't think it is a good fit...Shuram Gudatetris wrote:Michael Keaton.
I would pay a lot to see this. He might be just a hair too old now for the First Chronicles.
Leonardo DiCaprio could pull it off.
Johnny Depp could, too.
Could you imagine a Tim Burton Chronicles? (Keaton and Depp are faves of his).

Having seen Matthew McConaughey in some of his newfound serious roles recently, like in Interstellar, I think he could be a good Covenant. He has the gauntness and intensity which is so characteristic about Covenant.

I like Tim Burton movies. I recently watched Planet of the Apes with audio commentary switched on. Here some of what he was speaking about concerning his movies and the art of film making:Shuram Gudatetris wrote:

One of the reasons I haven't talked much
about the movie [Planet of the Apes] is
that I prefer to let people decide what
they wanna decide about it. That's what I
always liked about things.
You know, if I watched Frankenstien it was
about Burbank, and the angry villagers were
my neighbors. Everybody sees films in a
differant way. Especially a film like Planet
of the Apes, where you can get a lot of
differant responses on it from anybody.
That's why I haven't gone out of my way to
over-analyze it. I'd rather let other people
do that.
People get too literal in life, and that's why
I try to react against it a little bit.
Let people think what they wanna think, and if
they believe that's what it is then that's what
it is.
It shows more about them than it does about
anything else. And I find that's always interesting.
I like to see what people think, cos it says a lot
about where they're coming from.
Part about what I love about the medium of films -
and this goes back to their inception - is that
there's something mystical about them.
When they first came out people didn't know how it
was done, and so there's a magical quality to it.
It's the visual form of a novel.
A novel makes you think more because you're not
given all the images. So you have to use your
imagination more.
Film is a visual medium. So therefore you're seeing
more things. You're getting sound, the words and
the images. You're getting music. So with that
you're getting quite a lot.
With film, you don't need everything. You can let
people think. Let them have their own mind about
that. And the more they do that then the better they
are for themselves.
If you see a movie and see every single aspect about
it, and everything is clearly defined for you, then I
don't know...I'm not sure what kind of a movie that
would be.
