"Fabric of the world"

Something interesting that I just noticed in WGW, chapter 14. To set the stage, Sunder has just stabbed Caer-Caveral with the krill:
From the blow burst a deflagration of pearl flame which rent away immobility, sent Linden and the Giants sprawling, hurled Covenant to the grass. At once, all the music became fire and raced toward the Forestal, sweeping around him - and Sunder and Hollian with him - so that they were effaced from sight, consumed in an incandescent whirlwind that spouted into the heavens, reached like the ruin of every song toward the bereft stars. A cacophony of fear clashed and wept around the flame; but the flame did not hear it. In a rush of ascension, the blazed burned its hot, mute agony against the night as if it fed on the pure heart of Andelain, bore that spirit writhing and appalled through the high dark.

And as it rose, Linden seemed to hear the fundamental fabric of the world tearing. [emphasis mine]
Interesting implications for Final Chronicles, don't you think?

Yeah, I guess that does set the stage for certain ideas.

Funny, though. If the fundamental fabric of the world was tearing, I'm not sure I'd recognize the sound. "What's that sound? An avalanche maybe?" "Sounds more like the fundamental fabric of the world tearing to me." Must be those heightened Land-senses.

When reading a passage from SRD, it's difficult to know if it's a typo, or just another word I never heard before.

I think "fundamental fabric of the world" = the set of Laws. Linden felt the Law of Life breaking.

Indeed. 'Twas the murder of Caer Caveral that broke the Law of Life.

It's bad enough getting a tear in the fundamental fabric of one's pants. I have to assume that when the world is involved, it's several degrees of magnitude worse. :)

I assumed when I read this that Linden was simply hearing the sound of the rending of the Law of Life. I can't remember how it's described when Elena breaks the Law of Death, i.e., if there was a similar sound (although I tend to think not).

I think the sound of Elena breaking the Law of Death was Kevin's voice: "#$% fool!"
