Help! (I need somebody)

And not just anybody! Help!
Well, as you know by now, I'm sure, this is Foul--but one difference . . . I'm on my dad's crap computer! Mine doesn't work, cause I'm afraid it finally got acquainted with one of those trojan viruses. Anyway, when I start up my comp, everything is gravy till the Windows start-up sound--and then all goes to hell. My keyboard and mouse don't respond!!
Right now, my comp has spent almost 16 hours going through this emergency thing, where Norton Anti-virus scans everything on my comp--and I mean EVERYTHING.
Anybody know if Norton'll do the trick--or will I be having to pay some schmuck 30 bucks to fiddle with my comp?! Feh--this is not good! I've got a five page report due in one of those MLA format thingys, and I've got a novel on that comp!! If I lose it, I'll have to re-write 30 pages, since the last time I printed it out it was 167. CRAP! Need some HELP!

Sorry I can't be of any help Foul. I don't have Norton.
My computer got a virus a couple of weeks ago and we had to wipe it. I hope Norton works for you.
Best wishes,
Turiya

I would say let Norton do its thing. It's been set (I would think) to scan each file and if you have billions of files (like I have on my PC) then it takes quite a while.
16 hours sounds like a bit much though. Are you able to boot from your CD drive and run a scan from there?
Norton is usualyy quite safe with your files so you normally should be able to switch your PC off and start again.
You might need to download a trojan checker though - specifically designed for the job at hand.
Go to
www.moosoft.com for a fairly efficient one - and best of luck

Norton probably will work - but it depends on the virus. I got my computer infected about a month ago, and it stopped me running any .exe file - we could only run programs from CD. We got a copy of Norton on disk, and ran it - and halfway through the scan the virus shut down Norton. Turned out it was a brand new virus Norton couldn't fix. You should just hope yours isn't.

We *think* it was in an e-mail. We had to totally format the computer - lost everything.

Norton will do it's thing--BUT if u got the "klez" virus, like I did, it runs around Norton & McAfee and opens directly from email 2 ur Word Processor--killing them both...if u have some other virus u may live... (good luck, man that sucks--as they says--back-up everything, download 2 disc...all that rot!)--so caam if u c anything that contains the word "klez" anywhere in it: trash it immediately--the virus initially occured about 7 months ago...

That's pretty scarey! I thought Norton could take care of pretty much everything!

Can't fix what the developers haven't encountered yet - new viruses appear every day.

Viruses is the main reasons I use Eudora, rather than Outlook. So many viruses have been linked to Outlook. It just pays to be cautious about what is sent to you.

I used to use Norton .. now I have pc-cillin cos it came with the comp .. and it updates regularly ..
hope it works .. cos so far .. no problem

I'd be glad to pay a megre $30.oo to get someone to give my comp the once over
but then again .. double it and that'd be prolly what i'd pay here an hour

.. or even for half an hour ..
