Elder Scrolls 4 or Half Life 2?

I've been having a difficult decision to make lately, Elder Scrolls 4 or Half Life 2... two of my mates are both pressuring me to get the games - and I don't know which one to go for.

Elder Scrolls is supposed to be massive and amazing... while Half Life 2 is supposed to be amazing online. I really can't decide.

What do you think?

OH PUHLEEESE...no comparison.

Half Life 2 is fun but Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion will provide months and months more fun and be far more interesting than even the BEST shooter (which well might BE Half Life 2 or F.E.A.R.)

How much better is the Elder Scrolls 4 than 3?

Miles better. Morrowind has flaws that 4 improves on.

I hate all the Elder Scrolls 4. Half-Life 2 is great... you get to shoot aliens. Elder Scrolls 4 is full of fat knights with crappy English ascents.

As far as I know there is only one Elder Scrolls 4.

And is over in 12-14 hours.

You've never played it, then.

There is only one! Do you all have turns to have it then?

When I played it, it was full of weirdo knights with stupid ascents.

The accents are good (especially Uriel Septim's, you'd think the guy was born in Huddersfield or something), but everyone does look a bit fat, think it must have to do with the meshes they've used.

I love first person shooters, but there are so many out there, and developers have gotten so good at making them, that I've pretty much stopped buying them. I'm sure Doom 3 and Half-Life 2 are very good games, but I've spent so much of my life blowing the crap out of things as a disembodied hand that a new title has to have something different about it. That's one of the reasons I liked Escape From Butcher Bay so much.

There aren't so many good RPGs on the market, even fewer if, like me, you find the Final Fantasy games irritating.

If there is only one... then how come lots of people have copies?

So you say, 'I like all the aliens 3', or 'I like all the Half-Life 2'?. I'm wondering why you added 'all' when all you could have said was 'I dont like elder scrolls IV'. Otherwise, you are actually stating you dislike all the copies, when you really mean the game.

Although, to be fair, after finishing Oblivion's main quest I found that, while it is certainly intriguing and very exciting (especially the last part :D), I liked Morrowind's main quest more. There's something to be said about the whole "prophesied, reincarnated hero from the past" motif...

heh, speaking of Oblivion's main quest. I've been having trouble killing some "bad people" for some army guy. i find myself... killed a lot.

I think they're both equally great, just for different reasons. Half-Life 2 is like a Rube Goldberg machine with its gloriously scripted events and its frenetic action. Elder Scrolls IV is like a Mahler symphony, in that it's enthralling and you can easily get lost in it.

But if someone put a gun to my head or a ninja star to my neck, I'd choose Elder Scrolls IV.
