Tartakovsky directing Dark Crystal sequel

Oooo!! I love The Dark Crystal!

I'm fond of The Dark Crystal, too, so it might be fun to revisit this world.

I like that the sequel story will take place hundreds of years after the original. The early 80's do seem like a lifetime ago... (goes into nostalgia trip)

Where's Jemcheeta? He might be the biggest Dark Crystal fan around here. I'm sure he'd get a kick out of this news - if he doesn't already know.

I LOVE that pic Esmer! My dad used to have a Lord of the Rings print obviously by the same artist, but it got destroyed in a house fire.

Wish I couls find a copy of that one though. *drools*

I loved The Dark Crystal at the time. Will be very interesting to see a sequel.

Well, as I said in my earlier post here, I have much fondness for the original film, and I'm still looking forward to the sequel. Even more so, now that the article Balon linked to has provided more info on the production. The new film could be quite a spectacle.

This looks really good. As a big fan of the original, and of Jim Henson in general, I think that Tartakovsky will do a bang up job with it. I've liked all the other stuff he's done.

"We can have a puppeteer in a blue suit holding the puppets and moving them around, and then we'll just take the puppeteer out," Tartakovsky said, going far beyond the days when Henson had four or five people squatting beneath each puppet. "Now we can put the puppet's feet on the puppeteer and connect their hands, and they can actually move them around."

That sounds like a really genius idea. It'll totaly dispense with all the clunky movements.

I just finished one of the special features on the Dark Crystal and it shows Jim Henson talking about how they had planned out the entire Dark Crystal world not just the places or scenes that the movie would include.

It'll be great groundwork for Tartakovsky to use. I'm SUPER excited for it, especially now that the tenative time is mid '08.

I really liked the Dark Crystal when I first watched it at the theater. Some things still stick with me. Nothing sadder than watching a podling geting its life force sucked away.
I have however viewed the film once or twice since and have found it somewhat difficult to watch. Kind of reminds me of having loved Godzilla movies when I was like 10 but now they are just so bad I can't sit though them. (Except the first one. That still rocks.) I'm not saying DC is anything like a Gozilla film its just hard to ignore the muppetry like I did when I was younger. You kind of expect it in a "Muppets in Space" type film but DC was after something more serious. Anyway I still appreciate the talent and effort it took to create DC in the first place. Perhaps a sequel will restimulate my interest. The DC story by the way is excellent in any case.

Fore me, CGI had spoiled movies for me. Everytime I see something with little acting or plot, and a lot of money and CGI thrown into, I go home and watch something old school.

A movie that has to stand on the back of a computer programmer isn't a movie in my eyes.

I think the muppetness is what is part of the charm of the film. Think of all the work Hensen put into making an entire world WITHOUT the ease of CGI. It's an artform in and of itself. Augra rules!
