Does anyone follow the competition? it's probably the team sport i watch the most excluding cricket. Played it a bit when i was younger and played at centre and loose-forward. Nathan Hindmarsh is my favourite player(and my GF fancies him  ) but i have a thing for the Knights because of the Johns brothers.

I'm gonna keep a thread for all the goings-on in the league and i welcome other comments from people.

Probably the most interesting debate at the moment surrounds Darren Lockyer's best position, especially with the second origin game coming up. IMO he should definately play FB. I'm a big fan of Scotty 'the regal one' Prince and Thurston has a good kicking game. Plus Lockyer is the best FB in the world.

I take Queensland by 10 if gower isn't fit.

This was the lader before this week-ends games. Newcastle lost to the Bulldogs and the dragons have won aswell. Still a few more games to go and then i'll post the updated ladder.

First time i've seen Sonny-Bill since his comeback and he's looking pretty good. Gutted that the Knights lost but they are pretty tired and need the bye.

Manly beat Wests last night. Apparantly it was a last minute try that won it. Newcastle had the bye so they also pick up a couple of valuable points and get some rest.

Maroons vs the Blues on the 14th. gower hasn't been selected so i take Queensland, at home, to win.

here are the teams:

NSW
Fullback: Brett Hodgson
(Wests Tigers)
Wing: Matt King (Storm)
Centre: Mark Gasnier (Dragons)
Centre: Timana Tahu (Eels)
Wing: Eric Grothe (Eels)

Half Back: Brett Finch (Roosters)
Front Row: Willie Mason (Bulldogs)

Second Row: Steve Simpson (Knights)
Lock: Andrew Ryan (Bulldogs)

Interchange:

Steve Menzies (Sea Eagles)
Mark O’Meley (Bulldogs)
Craig Wing (Roosters)

QLD
Fullback: Karmichael Hunt (Broncos)
Wing: Brent Tate (Broncos)
Centre: Justin Hodges (Broncos)
Centre: Steven Bell
(Sea Eagles)
Wing: Adam Mogg (Raiders)
Five Eighth: Darren Lockyer (c) (Broncos)
Half Back: Johnathan Thurston (Cowboys)

Should be some very proud Queenslanders after the last Origin game. A crushing win by the maroons 36-6 sets up the decider in melbourne.

Mogg got most of the headlines with two tries but personally i think the front row were outstanding. Brent Tate also caught my eye.

Simply put, Finch was useless and NSW need a new half-back for the third game. Kimmorley seems to be back in contention but I've always thought him a bit flakey in big matches. I would give Gower the nod and if the selectors follow me then I think The Blues will win(I expect a big game from Gasnier, who hasn't really fired thus far).

Queensland have Karmichael Hunt, Bell and probably Inglis out.
Current ladder:
1 Storm
2 Broncos
3 Sharks
4 Bulldogs
5 Dragons
6 Knights
7 Sea Eagles
8 Cowboys
9 Wests Tigers
10 Raiders
11 Panthers
12 Roosters
13 Warriors
14 Eels
15 Rabbitohs

i suppose the big news is that Gower is back and Gasnier has been moved inside. I take the blues to win in an extrememly close contest.

in other news there was a full fixture list this week-end past and here is the updated ladder. I think there must have been at least three bye's because not much has changed at the top.
1 Storm
2 Broncos
3 Dragons
4 Bulldogs
5 Sharks
6 Knights
7 Cowboys
8 Sea Eagles
9 Raiders
10 Wests Tigers
11 Panthers
12 Warriors
13 Roosters
14 Eels
15 Rabbitohs
i managed to watch the broncos recently and they are looking very strong. They have a great balance at the moment, being extremely powerful up front and a lot of pace out wide. Also, Joey Johns was back to his best as Newcastle won at manly.

16 plays 14 in favour of QL. Turned into a truly great game. Everything about life and sport was seen in that second half. QL had a disallowed try that should have been given straight after half time and then two more bad ref decisions gifted NSW 2 tries to leave QL trailing 14-4.

Then Thurston made a great break and Tate(man of the series IMO) finished the move of with a try. Then Lockyer pounced on a Hodges mistake to win the game.

Really pleased for QL, especially when everyone was saying it'd be 3-0 to the Blues at the start of the series.

good stuff.

It has to be said that bugger all has happened in the comp. recently. the Storm have continued apace, Brisbane still look pretty good, although they lost last week-end and the Rabbitohs(The team owned by Russell Crow, for those who don't know) are still rock bottom.

The only debate at the moment is who's gonna grab the last couple of positions and finish in the top 8 and who's gonna miss out. The knights arrested their form with wins over South Sydney and the Sharks. Joey was back to his best. Looks like Matt Gidley is on his way to England for next season which is dissapointing, though.

Jason Smith has decided to move to The Cowboys for next year. He's a good player and a good addition.
Updated ladder;
1 Storm..... .....34
2 Bulldogs. .....30
3 Broncos. .....26
4 Dragons . .....26
5 Sea Eagles ...24
6 Knights .......24
7 Cowboys .....22
8 Sharks .......22
9 Raiders .......22
10 Eels ........20
11 Panthers ... 20
12 Wests Tigers.18
13 Warriors ... 16
14 Roosters .. 16
15 Rabbitohs ...4

No, Australian Rules is rubbish compared to this. It's the National Rugby League.....not rugby rugby, though-It's rugby football. Hope that cleared it up for ya.

I'll post some highlights at some point so y'all can see exactly what it is. (I wondered who'd been viewing this thread...turns out it's Danlo-153 times!! 8O  )

The dead comedian in my sig is Bill Hicks, a very funny man and a very insightful social commentator. 8)

Another Knights fan here. I believe we may have a psychological edge next season, knowing that we'll probably send Joey away at the end of it, and we have a guy who may well fill his shoes perfectly.

So, premiership pick?

I had become a pretty big fan of League up until the Super League thing in '95.

Once Origin was defiled by not being about a players actual Origin (but instead his corporate allegiance) I belatedly decided that I'd stick with the sport I'd played since the Under 6's.

My interest in League was mostly based in humour. "Rabbits" Warren exclaiming "Oooh, a big hit from the big man" and the like.

I have read enough to realise that the 2005 season was as good as the 1994 season.

But it is basically a bunch of meathead f***wits pounding each other senselessly. The Johns Brothers are the exception that proves the rule.

If League didn't exist the Socceroos would be that much better.

If Ricky Stuart and James Hird (AFL) had played the World Game then I wouldn't have had to wait so long for Australia to compete on a stage that actually matters.

Yep, and that's what makes it such a great sport mate!! I got disillusioned with it a few years back but decided to start watching again at the start of last season. With the salary cap it's gotten very competitive.

As for the Premiers...I have a feeling Brisbane will take it. They've got some good momentum and class players all over the paddock. Storm have injury worries. The Bronco's by 6.

I picked the Dragons to beat Melbourne, but I'm glad they didn't because the Storm clearly deserve a premiership. My pick - Melbourne by a couple, and less than 24 total points will be scored.
Trapper439 wrote:But it is basically a bunch of meathead f***wits pounding each other senselessly.
Exactly, isn't it great? They do it so we don't have to.

Very true. I will be watching the match.

I'm picking Melbourne simply because I loathe the Broncos.

Despite my years of disinterest I still feel a giddy surge of joy when I hear that they have lost.

Go the Storm.

So what did you guys make of the game? I thought the Broncos deserved it and the biggest "meathead f***wit" around, Shane Webcke ended as a winner.

Im just looking forward to next year when hopefully Joey will end the same way.

I hear that.

Uhm... a couple of refereeing anomalies aside, Brisbane played a better game, and they deserved it. It was certainly nice for Shane Webcke anyway. It sucks a little bit for Melbourne that they couldn't finish what was one of the most dominating seasons in the history of the game, but I s'pose that's how it goes.

Shaun Berrigan might well be starting hooker for most of the Tri-Nations too. It must be nice being able to choose between a Dally M winner and a Churchill Medal winner for a single spot.
