Sheesh. This is why we need a comics forum.

Nah, I'd rather whine about it for 17 or so posts. Just to be clear, I think the colors of the costume are horrible, though they may serve to hide the blood stains when she gets her butt kicked.

Yeah, the black and red thing doesn't look too good. I generally like those colours together, but the way it's been done there is unsavoury.

Other than that, I don't have much of an opinion. Not a big comic fan. Heh.

Come on, guys! What do you want?? "Flowing red hair, knee-high red boots with spiked heels, and a form-fitting black outfit." If she wasn't a lesbian, and therefore even more unlikely than the average woman to be in my bed, I wouldn't kick her out of it.

I like the costume, it is from an Alex Ross design.

The red hair is definitely a point in her favor.

My problem with Batwoman isn't her costume or her sexual preferences. What I don't like is this whole concept of attaching a common prefix to create an instant superhero "family." Batboy must surely be hiding behind the bush somewhere, since there is already a Batgirl.

Don't you think this practice cheapens the original creation? Where's the value and purpose of Batman when his name is easily appropriated by any shmo out there? The original Batman's symbolism and mythos retain their power, but on someone else it just all becomes a cheap gimmick.

Did Batwoman lose her parents to muggers, too? Did she also fall into a batcave and, lo and behold, come away inspired to put on a bat costume to inspire fear into evildoers? I don't know Batwoman's character history, but my point is, why would any self-respecting superhero want to copy the name of another who is already at large? Doesn't she have any sense of originality? Bruce Wayne naming himself Batman is brilliant. Other people naming themselves Bat-this or that are just lazy. And dishonest. Gee, you mean you swear you never intended to be a copycat of Batman? Really?

I'm sure Batwoman is a terrific crimefighter. That's not the issue. But does it have to be a bat? That's already taken, madam. Sorry.

:soapbox: This rant brought to you by the letter 'B'

Hey, wait a minute. I'm Matrixman. What the hell does that make me? :?: Noooooooooooo...

  • The librarian-by-day Barbara Gordon
made her debut in 1967 in Detective Comics #359
as the daughter of Gotham City's
    Police Commissioner James Gordon.
On her way to a masquerade ball
dressed as a female version of Batman,
Barbara intervened in a kidnapping attempt
on Bruce Wayne by the villainous Killer Moth,
attracting the attention of Batman and
    leading to a crime-fighting career

Yeah, but does DC want to wait 86 years to create another winning team? If I were them, I'd try to pattern the Batman team after the Yankees.

over spending to get an aging and washed up Question when a young Bat-Kid wastes away on the El Paso PD?

or having Bruce Wayne pay PI's to dig up dirt on Bat-Teen and being suspended by the JLA?

or having a bunch of Bat-Guys on steroids?

or having a Bat-A-Rod put up impressive combat numbers but never getting the bad guys in Arkham?
