Formal petition to Jay for an Erikson Forum

So I finished the (main) available Malazan books and decided to go hunting for an Erikson forum. I return from my trip weary and disheartened.
Reasons for the forum
1) Donaldson himself is a fan
2) Stop bothering everybody else in Gen F/SF and increase the depth and scope of the discussions
3) The Library's old by-line. The main forum left a very bad taste in my mouth, and I can't imagine other KW'ers liking it much, either.

You talking about MalazanEmpire.com? I've been around there for a while now. Good for discussion on the series, but the members can be a bit annoying sometimes, especially in the forums that aren't about the books.
I'd be glad to see an Erikson forum here so I could discuss the series in more depth with the other Watchers who've read it.

I've never read them, but they are in a very large ''To Read'' list.
I'd certainly discuss them when i'm done.

Read Gardens of the Moon...enjoyed it very much, still much I don't understand...there is high interest...it needs it's own forum

It doesn't bother me, but I think it might deserve the same attention that Tolkein, Martin and King get. I guess I'm on the fence; would like to see a comics forum first.

you'll be off the fence once you make it through Deadhouse Gates and the Chain of Dogs, dAN.
yes yes yes...Erikson forum. for all the same reasons Syl named. i've been to the Malazan forum too. couldn't form any lasting attachments.
I GOT CUT OFF MAKING THIS POST and now i don't remember what else i was gonna say.
wants to discuss Erikson with Watchers...or watch Watchers discuss Erikson and make dubious and inflammatory comments.

Well, the 4 who have said nay aren't very vocal about their reasons--and it is getting crowded and topheavy in Gen SciFi/Fantasy...

Where's the "Ban Syl and Lucimay" option?

It's not crowded at all. Jay moved McCaffrey, Jordan & Wolfe in there, but there's only a few 'live' threads there, and it's pretty much been that way for a while. My reasons against adding an Erikson forum is that so far, he's doing this one set of books, and if we're not going into great detail discussing them, then the 3 threads covering Malazan will still be sufficient. Besides, we've all have a say about the Comics thing, and the concensus is against adding forums right now. I don't need to read more Erikson to know that A) I really like him, and B) This is still a Donaldson forum. So, Luci, consider me off the fence against it. If you guys think the Erikson site is full of jerks, well, so what? It isn't like we have a monopoly on that here!

i think the reason some of us want a new forum is to discuss his work in greater detail. Whatsmore, by the time the series is complete there will be what? 15 books including Esslemont? Thats an awful lot of books to contain in three or four threads.
The series seems to be growing in popularity here and many people are at different stages in the books and i would like to discuss elements of the plot without being bombarded with spoilers.....
BTW...I've also tried to find a decent Malazan forum and been disappointed.

If you tried to look for a good Chronicles site while Donaldson was still writing 'Power That Preserves', you would have been even more disappointed.

So i should get my Erikson fix somewhere else then? So why have any forums other than the Donaldson ones? If it turns out there's not much or enough interest then i'll be happy to go elsewhere.
I must say that I'm a little annoyed at the real reluctance to add anything new by some members(I'm not aiming at you, dAN). Of the five nays i wonder how many have even read the books.
Edit: I think looking for any decent forum around the time Donaldson wrote TPTP would have been rather difficult.

How about I make both a Erikson Forum and a Comics Forum. Would that make everyone happy? I don't mind adding new forums.-jay

I see. Danlo says there's not enough vocals behind the against vote so I give some vocals, and now you don't want to hear it. I think that since I'm the only member saying anything against that you're fooling yourself if you think your comments are not aimed at me.
Remember, there was a cry for separate McCaffrey, Wolfe and Jordan forums, and look where they are now. Erikson has what, between three and six people posting consistently to it? I don't see it as something Sci-Fi can't handle, especially since nobody else is posting anything.

I'm not unhappy. I just wanted to say why I voted against it, and I have. I think an Erikson forum will have the same half-dozen people posting in it that currently post in the Erikson threads in Sci-Fi, so who cares? The comics thing may do the same thing, but with all the comic movies out now, I think it'll do better. IMO. YMMV. ETC.

dAN, dont be so defensive. If i was aiming at you you would be cowering before my uleashed power like a small frightened child.
Like Danlo, the thing that annoys me is that people have apparently found the need to vote 'nay' seemingly because they have an arbitrary aversion to new forums. Go figure!

you're starting to sound very grumpy dANdelion.
nobody's pooping in your cheerios. we're just lobbying.
i have nothing to say about a comics forum one way or the other. i don't read comics. BUT I DO READ ERIKSON and i would like a dedicated forum here because this is where i hang out and this is where all my friends hang out and i'm interested in THEIR opinions (you included) and discussions on Erikson. there are soooo many storylines going on in this extensive series and different people may want to discuss different storylines. do we need to make more threads to convince you that a dedicated forum would be the tidiest way to keep these threads all together? and as more and more people read Erikson i think the worth of a dedicated forum would be evident. if you're saying we should wait a while and see if the Erikson interest grows, i can live with that too.

I'm for the Comics forum, and I'm the only guy speaking out against you.

No, I sound like someone who isn't agreeing with you. I have not said anything rude, unkind, or grumpy at all, but I see that isn't stopping you from attacking me personally, so I'm going to stop now, rather than continue to take this, because it's clear that I'm the minority here for the moment.

I'm happy to have a comic book forum if it's what other people want and I'm reasonable enough to accept your doubts over the success(or not) of an Erikson forum. I dont know how clear i have to be dAN--you've read the series and voiced your concerns but there are four others who havn't voiced THEIR concerns and i'm unsure as to whether they have read the series. I'm not attacking you.
Not sure where it got personal

Sorry if i posted anything that offended you mate.
