I'm a dyed in the wool (isn't that an interesting cliche?) Looney Tunes freak--and I'm so damm old that I may be the only one on this board to have seen Crusader Rabbit & Raggs and Coronel Bleep. Fortunately I know some of you have actually seen Winky Dink (where you put a "magic" screen on your TV and draw on it--or just draw on the TV and get your ass whooped ) & Beanie & Cecil. Then there was Hoppity Hopper, Ratfink, Roger Ramjet and so on...not to mention "Japanimation": Astro Boy, 8th Man, Speed Racer & Gigantor. (don't forget Felix, danlo, never forget: and the old abstract Felix the Cat)

Around that time, and after a few years of The Flintstones, this toon came out:

Top Cat, one of my all time favs--great theme song-perhaps better than the Flintstones, but nothing tops The Woody Woodpecker show--I need to look up who voiced TC cause he was just too cool and suave (actually at times it almost seemed that all the characters were voiced by the cast of McHale's Navy-on at the same time.) Officer Dibble and Bennie the Ball (the little rotund cat) were very cool as well, Bennie's voice is very notable-almost sounds like Joe Pesci at 8

Well, they're all a far historical cry from Ed, Edd & Eddy, Dexter's Laboratory, Ren & Stimpy and Angry Beavers but they were fun nonetheless. All of this has me thinking of Rocky & Bullwinkle which was so cool it prob. deserves a thread of it's own. So your favs?

I watched this show for years growing up, getting up early to catch it. for comic fans this was the lodestone. bad animation, horrible writing. but i would never miss an episode.

Prince Planet

Though the good ones weren't orginally created for television, the Warner Bros. Looney Tunes were by far my favorite cartoons when I was a kid. I was picky though. I much prefered the cartoons produced in the mid to late 40s through the 50s. The art and animation had climbed above the early, somewhat clumsy Porky Pig, Daffy Duck and Bugs shorts to a general movie quality animation. Mel Blanc found just the right tones for all of his voices and the comedy and satire became the stuff of legend. My favorite all time bit was DUCK DODGERS IN THE 24 1/2 CENTURY. Anything with Marvin the Martian. Loved the Roadrunner bits (until the 60s rolled around and the animation took a nose dive).

Robotech, Bugs, Daffy, Road Runner and Marvin the Martian were all great.

2. Danger Mouse. Loved it as a kid. Saw some episodes recently, and it's still funny.
3. The Real Ghostbusters... no, not Slimer! and the Real Ghostbusters, and definately not The Original Ghostbusters.

Also liked Animaniacs, Looney Toons, Tiny Toons, Sailor Moon (PINK...SUGAR...HEART...ATTACK!), The Smurfs, Voltron (the original one with the Lions) and of course Alladin.

OMG!! How did I forget Sailor Moon? I even have several of the dolls.

And Fisty, Paul agrees with you. He always tells me about Battle of the Planets, but I've never seen it.

While Looney Tunes/Woody Woodpecker/Rocky & Bullwinkle were ever-present, the show to watch during my childhood was Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I also liked the Ghostbusters and G.I. Joe cartoons. Plenty of obscure and way-out there programming during the late 80s/early 90s. Lots of aborted series that didn’t make it past the 7th episode.

In 1991-1996, I watched exclusively Nicktoons. Saw the series premiers for Doug, Rugrats, Ren & Stimpy, and later Rocko's Modern Life (perhaps my favorite cartoon). Later got into Space Ghost: Coast to Coast, though I'm not sure if that qualifies as a cartoon. The last "real" cartoon I watched and will still watch if I run into is "King of the Hill," though I lump it into sitcom with Simpsons and Family Guy.

I remember when Cartoon Network came out. I really enjoyed Dexter's Laboratory and, to a lesser extent, Johnny Bravo. Watched it a lot back then--still watch their late night programming sometimes.

Other shows off the top of my head: Johnny Quest, DuckTales, Tiny Toons, Animaniacs, Pinky and the Brain, Goof Troop, Rescue Rangers, Darkwing Duck, Pirates of Dark Water.

I also used to sporadically watch stuff like Liquid Television, Duckman, and of course Beavis & Butthead. Crazy shows for a kid.

Oh man, I had such a crush on Hajji from the original run of Johnny Quest as a kid...

Syl had a good one, the Rabbit of Seville. There was another great Bugs Bunny, with the now famous phrase "Kill the wabbit, kill the wabbit!" sung to the tune of Wagner's "Dance of the Valkyries." Another great phrase from same cartoon - "Thunder! Wightning! The Ewements!"

There was a cartoon from the early 80s that I loved, Dungeons and Dragons. It was on for about 2 seasons. Damn good stuff there! Also, I remember another great cartoon, can't remember the title though - typical good guy versus bad guy storyline, with each having half of a powerful sword, and the bad guy wanted the other half so that he would be ruler of the world. Anybody remember that one?
