I have a problem,I am addicted to The Discovery Channel,TLC,The Science Channel etc.This addiction to programs such as Mythbusters,Survivorman,Dirty Jobs,Deadliest Catch,and so on and so on has left me completely in the dark about most shows that are discussed here.In other words,has anyone else been sucked in?

If you're watching Mythbusters, then there is no reason to watch anything else on TV.

Oh, except for the Venture Bros. Go watch the Venture Bros. Now.

But anyway, heh, I haven't gotten really sucked into anything on Discovery except for Mythbusters. I love Mythbusters. I got my dad into American Chopper, though. And he doesn't even ride bikes at all. Heh.

I watch all those channels, but not those "pop" shows really....I stick to more of the drier science stuff....Science of the Bible is a good one, Histories Mysteries.....anything military intrigues me, too....definitely better than that mindless drivel you see on the Big 3 networks...and Venture Bros. definitely ROCK jay!

I must make an argument for Survivorman,here is the premise:They drop the guy(Les) in various locations with nothing more than 55lbs of camera equipment in a backpack and leave him there for seven days.He has been in such exotic locals as,the arctic,the Costa Rican jungle,the desert,canyons,a swamp,the Canadian Wilderness,and adrift at sea in a lifeboat.Watching someone else curled up in the fetal position in the jungle at night,lamenting on how much he wished he were somewhere else while 1000's of ants crawl on him is great.And the things he will eat,chipmunk,lizard,snake,sea snails,worms,they are all fairgame in a survival situation.

I don't have cable, but whenever I house-sit, I watch DiscoveryKids... not because they have anything terribly educational, but because they air episodes of The Saddle Club - a horsey series I used to read as a kid. Much joy to see it on screen now, since I'm usually too lazy or tired to even read kids' books these days.

I love all those informative shows, on Discovery Channel and elsewhere. I used to plan my social life around some episodes of Great Ships on The History Channel when I had cable in college. And I love Animal Planet.

Mythbusters is great. I remember years ago they shot poultry through airplane windshields to see if a bird could bring down a plane like that. Turns out the bird had to be frozen to even crack the glass, IIRC. Funny as hell to see them shooting frozen poultry out of a homemade cannon.

There actually is such a thing as a chicken gun.....

Modern Marvels gets me every time.
I can't stop watching.

These type of channels are the only redeeming things on TV, imho.

Discovery also has high definition channels which are outstanding.
There was a show on airplanes last night.
Amazing.

I'm also a regular Discovery channel watcher. Very cool that you've got Discovery in hi-def, HLT.

Dirty Jobs is hilarious, SBG! Might be my 2nd favorite Discovery show after Mythbusters.

I get my science/technology fix from Daily Planet, hosted by Jay Ingram and Natasha Stillwell. Can I assume there is an American version of this program?

These days, I have next to zero interest in the 3 big US networks. There remains PBS to light the way.

I catch Mythbusters whenever I can. That show is usually worth watching.

Since I'm not a fan of Survivor, I never gave Survivorman a chance until a couple of months ago. I caught it about 1/3 of the way in and saw ten minutes of it (he was in a life raft in the ocean somewhere) before I had to run. I was surprised--it looked pretty decent.

Dirty Jobs, Deadliest Catch (I'm not a big crab eater but I think deep down I'm waiting for that one guy to fall overboard. It's like watching NASCAR; not a race fan, but maybe there'll be a crash today...) Modern Marvels, Extreme Machines are all cool shows. If it weren't for my wife giving me that "you've got five seconds to change the channel" look, I'd mindlessly watch all of these shows every night.

I adore Mythbusters and watch it very chance I get. I loved the one where they crashed cars at high rates of speed top see how much damage various objects riding in your back window could do. Small stuffed animals seemed mostly harmless when they came flying up at people's heads following a head-on crash at highway speeds, but never have a bowling ball up there!

Dirty Jobs is also fun. My favorite was the animal poop cleanup at the Zoo. Did you know that giraffes poduce clean and dry little pellets that look like coco puffs?

I'm a sucker for almost any show of Discovery, the History Channel, Animal Planet, and the National Geographic channels. My younger son and I could very happily watch nature documentaries all day long.

How about the one where Adam farted in the bathtub and they captured the 'flatus' in a glass tube so it could be analized?Or the episode where various appliances were thrown in a bathtub full of water just to see if and how bad they would kill you?Great television,great television.

I think my favorite episode is when they re-created various scenes from the movie "Jaws". They actually constructed a mock-up great white shark and rammed a boat with it to see if a real shark could puncture the hull of a fishing boat. It did!

Ok, ok, I confess. I am a Deadliest Catch addict. I am sad to see Phil's passing. He was a walking time bomb, he knew it was coming. Just a few minutes before his stroke he was sitting with his son's looking at baby pictures.

I'm a sucker for this stuff.
