Folk/Bluegrass

Anyone else like folk music and bluegrass? I learned to like this kind of music when I lived in Tallahassee, Florida, where there were several folk and bluegrass festivals held. They were a lot of fun.

When I lived in NJ, I used to listen to a really good folk music program called "Music you can't hear on the radio." I wonder if that show is still around. It was on the Princeton University radio station (WPRB, I think).

Cool, Duchess. I bet you don't think "Dueling Banjos" is from the movie "Deliverance"! :P

That always drove me nuts. That song is waaay older than the movie, but after the movie everyone always thought it was from "Deliverance."

...and "Man of Constant Sorrows" isn't from o' Brother Where at Thou...? :D

(damm MsMary! Flashback city! I grew up near Princeton and listened 2 that program ALL the time! Yes WPRB!!!)

I played in a bluegrass band 4 a year, called The Clear Ditch Ramblers, part of our playlist included:
Rockytop
Orange Blossom Special
Tennessee Stud
Foggy Mountian Breakdown
and, of course, Scruggs & Flatt's "Theme from Beverly Hillbillies"

YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEHAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!
(Y'all come back now, hear?)

We have a nice little Bluegrass/fiddlers festival right here in the little town where I live. This might be the year when I sneak out to attend!

danlo, I forgot you used to live in NJ. I loved "Music you can't hear on the radio." I listened to it many a Sunday night.

What'd you play in the bluegrass band?

And Rockytop is a good one.

(Wow, never thought I'd find so many bluegrass fans here. :D)

Very cool, danlo. :)

Believe it or not, I had a college chemistry professor who played the mandolin in a bluegrass band. :D

Another Bluegrass fan here - got turned onto it thru Old & In the Way
Jerry Garcia, John Kahn, Vasser Clemens, David Grisman and the guitar player whose name escapes me...

Pig in a pen...

Ricky Skaggs is absolutely nails on mandolin...

Bill Monroe is really the "father" of bluegrass - "Blue Moon of Kentucky, keep on shinin'"

Bluegrass is really the only form of country music I like...

Me, too, Earthy. I'm really not a fan of other country music.

Peter Rowan was his name Earthy! I love Jerry Garcia's banjo style (actually I dig Neil's banjo 2...) banjo is an incredibly tuff instrament 2 play, I have the UTMOST respect 4 pickers. Our banjo player, Tom, practiced 5 hours a day and sometimes till his fingers bled...

I like folk music, but bluegrass I have to take in moderation or not at all. I admire the dexterity of its players, though.

While I love Bluegrass, I do not particularly care for other sorts of country music, either. :-x

We seem to have a consensus here. ;)

Like bluegrass, don't care for country. :P

I think some1 else already said this on the Watch, but I'll say it again: I like the bumpersticker that says, "Prevent inbreeding, ban Country Music"!
