Hmmm...very interesting...which leads me to believe that Donaldson would dismiss it and leave the rest of us twisting in the wind...:-)

Wow...I can't be bothered to read all these posts...

Except to say that...these forums pretty much confirm what I have always believed as a college-level rhetoric instructor: electronic communication legitimizes the opinions of people who have no experience or professional acumen to base their opinions on. It is art. It has nothing to do with YOU. I k...

Hmmm...

I'm coming late to this topic, but as usual, I will throwdown by challenging anyone to prove that Linden "whines" more than Thomas Covenant does in the original trilogy. No, really. Go back and reread the original trilogy. Read it. I have actually always read this as Donaldson's commentary...

I am a little disturbed...

...by some of the comments that refer to the necessity of readers' "expectations" being fulfilled. These are, of course, entirely subjective, as MY expectations may differ from someone else's, and NO author is under ANY obligation to satisfy anyone's expectations but his or her own. Period...

Of course we are all driven to speculate here - but I am trying to reserve judgment on the Elena issue FOR ANOTHER THREE YEARS!!! (Damn you, SRD...) My guess is, the Bane will somehow be Elena's redemption, and the Land's Dead, since they can now interact, are in a sense fighting their own war again...

Actually, I have a lot of fun expanding my vocabulary by reading Donaldson - I'm still looking for ways to incorporate "frangible" and "flensed" into every day conversation.

I don't have my copy in front of me right now, but almost immediately after J frees himself and traps the Elohim, in the following chapter during Covenant's discussion with Clyme and Branl, there is a line about how power is only useful when it is constrained by boundaries - and he actually says som...

I'm actually glad to see other people feel this way - I have such a tendency to defend virtually anything and everything about Donaldson, but I have to say...more disappointments with this one than any of the previous, and this was one of the major ones - clearly it's isn't just me.

I agree. I hate those kind of endings. But I knew ahead of time that reading this would probably do that to me. I still couldn't believe the last line of the first Mordant's Need book...that one killed me. But this is worse.

And now...the wait begins...

Well, being new to this forum, I can see that there is already a division between the Linden lovers and the Linden haters. I'm somewhere in between - the stance of a true coward. That being said, I think that one of Linden's faults in this series is going to be the extremity of action to which her l...

Woohoo!

I actually got mine by winning an online contest - thought I'd be getting a crappy paperbound <Advance Reader's Not for Resale> copy...they sent me the hardbound! Gloat gloat gloat gloat... And that being said...yeah, I actually do intend to buy a copy - so as not to deprive SRD of the sales. That's...
