A friend sent me these links: en.wikisource.org/wiki/The_Golden_Bough/Sympathetic_Magic en.wikisource.org/wiki/The_Golden_Bough/Magic_and_Religion It's interesting to read about the beliefs and habits of past generations. To our more modern sense of reasoning, they seem quite nonsensical and unscien...

The point isn't that we should respect and tolerate different, even opposing, morals of other individuals and cultures. The point is that there are different, even opposing, morals between individuals and cultures. Hi Fist. :D Isn't saying that different individuals and cultures have different mora...

Guys, if you create a thread called 'Are there objective moral truths?' and ask whether appeals to natural rights, moral rights, equality, justice and other such concepts can be anything other than subjective claims, I'll contribute when I have time. However, if those participating in the thread do ...

I think there may be a reference to The Lost and the lifespan of giants in TOT. A couple of chapters prior to the Dromond arriving at The Land of the Elohim, like IrrationalSanity said.

There's also the fact that if they do make the film, it will be tailored to appeal to as wide an audience as possible. So, this pretty much guarantees that it won't 'ring true' for the real fans (those who already love the books). I'm not a big fan of Tolkien, but I must say I'd rather read the book...

Sure he's about 65, but the important things IMO are that they get someone who looks a bit like TC and someone who can portray his state of mind (someone who can act). Perhaps they could make him look a bit younger with makeup. :?

Harvey Keitel as TC?

I couldn't find his name after searching, so apologies if this has been suggested by someone else. Well? He's about the right age and could be sufficiently cranky. EDIT: Also, he's a good actor and would look a bit like my impression of TC if he were to stumble around, unshaven in a dirty tee-shirt....

If you want to know the lifespan of giants, read The One Tree (which I am re-reading right now!). I'm pretty sure the giants talk about this just before or after Elemesnedene/The Elohim - they are discussing their children and some giants who disappeared in that place. Unfortunately, I can't remembe...

Both. To tell you the truth, that part of the story never bothered me a great deal. Covenant at that point in time, doubts that The Land is real. He believes the whole adventure is an elaborate dream or delusion (and the FCTC is so ambiguous, that you never know for sure). If that is the case, then ...

Thanks amanibhavam! It seems that a lot of people (including myself) consider the land's reality in the first chronicles as brilliantly (maddeningly!) ambiguous, but almost a given in the second.

Do you have any comments regarding my first two questions / the initial topic of the post?

Question about TCs summons (TPTP/TWL)

** SPOILER WARNING ** Hi, I have a few questions: (On the subject of Summons) In The Wounded Land (Soothtell), Covenant muses that the reason his summons to the land was so elaborate (eg. Joan/The Ritual at the beginning of the book) was because the Staff of Law had been destroyed and other means ha...
