I think he'd be an excelent pick for TC too. A lot of people keep forgetting how the ravages of illness ages the face and body. I don't see TC looking like your normal 30 y/o at any time in the chronicles. In my minds, his face is also etched with the lines of disassappointed bitterness. Ever seen a...

I was thinking along the same lines...

Inbreeding in animals to develop the most desired characteristics has been practiced for centuries.

It generally doesn't quite work the same with humans. But I can imagine that in the mind of classical writers the same ideology was at work.

How are they going convey great narative dialogue

That's one of the things I always mourne when I see a great book made into a movie. Movies never give litterature due justice. And Donaldson's erudite narrations are astoundingly beatuiful throughout the series. I think the script writers did a good job with LOTR - but I still saw the emptiness in t...

Hey! I can be flexible...

The image fits.

I had to look up who he was - I'm very bad a recognizing names of actors until I've seen them in several films.

But I think he would be able to play covenant too.

Good choice.

LOL

Sorry - I need to clarify that... I don't seem him as a 20-something. I'm only 40 - and some days feel old as dirt - some day I wonder where 16 went. No intentional slight against those of us who are just reaching prime. But reaching prime - with such a devastating illness...Things would be a great ...

My take on TC

I don't know if I view TC as a whiney or cowardly... More so reluctant and unwilling... He's a beaten man - devastated by his disease and the cataclismic loss he has suffered because of it. His battle is to maintain the sanity and practiced routines that have allowed him to hold on to some small ves...

Sean Bean As TC

Some of you may not recognize the name - but he played Boromir in the Lord of the Rings movies. He also played Richard Sharpe in the BBC series - Sharpe's Rifles, etc... He seems the perfect actor for the part in my opinion. His accent might be a problem, but he could probably loose that with a litt...

The appropriate age of readers....

It was a hard decision to let my youngest son choose LFB for his book report. I have an 18 and a 16 year old I haven't offered it to. I don't think I would have allowed it if he hadn't agreed to discussing it with me as we read it together. I told him it would be a difficult book - with lots of lang...

Thank you Avatar

I couldn't say that what is written here is flippant or unimportant in any way. One of the enduring attractions of books like these is the platform they provide for thought - even for those who view them merely as forms of fantastical entertainment. If there weren't challenging themes and issues tha...

This is the most difficult aspect for me...

I have four sons, yet I was "Lena" when I was 13 years old. My "hero" figure was the school's superjock. Like Lena - I attempted to hide both my pain and my shame - not to protect him - but because I felt it would destroy my mother and father to know what had happened. Reading Lo...

What does "the Land" signify to you.

I have often pondered the hidden meaning of the Land in Donaldson's story. He writes so many stories that deal with the basic subject of inner character development that I almost suspect he intends to write allegory. But, then, I'm the kind of person who looks for the hidden meaning in everything - ...

Just Call me Spot...

My name isn't from the series - it's a personal name - my "Indian Name." I am the mother of 4 wonderful sons, 21, 18, 16, and 13. I was at the bookstore with my youngest, looking for an interesting book for his most recent report, when he paused and took hold of a book with an interesting ...

For me it suffices to say - older than the land as we "know" it - and younger than the bloodguards. It brings to mind an interesting idea though - maybe a timeline of events and history for those who can't keep easy track of the myriad bits and pieces of the legends and histories of the la...
