The Dreaming makes a good point... However atrocious and heinous Angus' past crimes were, they all ended up in one way or another saving human kind. At least the crimes we were told of... Naturally this doesn't justify the crime commited at the time. Angus could of course not know what would happen ...

True, Loremaster... Humans are untrustworthy... But that is also how the Amnion can use us. The very treacherous nature of the self-serving human plays into the Amnion's hands so much easier by dangling a mutagenetic Sword of Damocles over their chosen agents. Out of the three people in the book we ...

The Real Story
Since this thread somewhat touches upon one of the very few flaws I can find in the Gap series, I will make an attempt of pointing it out. I didn't have a problem with Morn's reasons for wanting to destroy Calm Horizons, neither did I have a problem with Vector's need to broadcast the formula. Morn ...

Thanks guys! I am heading for the library and the bookstore today. I have the Baroque Cycle and some Moorcock on hold for me there already anyway... I bought two Neil Gaiman books last week but haven't gotten around to reading them yet. I have read all the Hobbs, Wolfes and Martins... There are a lo...

I trust you guys...
... to recommend me some new stuff. I need some new Fantasy/Sci-Fi to read and I feel I have exhausted all sources. I prefer the more "grown up" fantasy/sci-fi books, as written by guys like Donaldson, Wolfe, Mieville and Clarke (both Arthur and Susannah). I like it dark, grimy and not so ...

Thanks for the tip on the short fiction of his. I will definitely check it out. I just never enjoyed books with all children main characters. I don't mind them being there, I just don't want to see the story through their eyes almost exclusively . Even though the story might not be for kids it is no...

Yes. You all make excellent points and if these books float your boats, I'm all happy for you. I enjoy Martin's way of writing very much, I love his morbid approach to main events and I appreciate how it's basically a simple medieval story with some clever twists... I can't stand the characters thou...

Am I the only one...
... who thinks the books are becoming rather repetitive? I am fearing he's becoming another Jordan in the sense that the characters are becoming too much alike already and in the sense that the story has come to a stand still. It's the little kidnapped kid, over and over... Kids that are between 5 a...

Thanks for the bump kid! China Mieveille has become one of my absolute favorite writers period. He's the kind of writer that I would enjoy whether he wrote fantasy or cook books. He's just got that touch with his prose that absolutely sucks me right into his worlds... And what worlds... The worlds h...

Loved it...
I think this was one of the best books of 2004 by far. Maybe even the best one...
The story is compelling, the characters are quirky and believable, the language is extraordinary, the dry humor is omni-present and the overall experience is mind blowing.
Absolutely loved it.

I can't stand this series. I started it and enjoyed the first four books, but now I cannot keep track of who is who anymore (and I am a Tolkien-Silmarillion fan so it's not that I've got ADD). It takes too long time between the books and I have grown from being 18 to 33 in the meantime and quite fra...

"... groaned"
Guess who? Yes, that's right. You won the toaster.
On the same subject: "Chosen"
I mean... How played is that, and it doesn't exactly roll off the tongue naturally in a battle: "Chosen! We must run for the hills!"
