These guys are about causing despair, for one. They don't know she wants to drink. They want to see her squirm when THEY drink. So ... a bit like the baddies in James Bond like to reveal their plans before leaving just enough of a chance for Bond to escape? It's a little bit silly isn't it. Go on, ...

Re: Why I'm Disappointed in the Last Chronicles

And there's even a sense of ambiguity about the outcome. While to the omniscient reader it is probably likely that the Land is real thanks to the Hile Troy and Lord Mhorham PoV sections, it isn't a guarantee. And to TC it is by no means certain the Land is real. He tries to validate Hile Troy's exi...

Re: Wordy words from FR

Part of the pleasure of a SD book is the rarely-used words that pop out the page at you. IDHTBIFOM, but I know there were several in FR. "Lacustrine" appears at least three times, including the punchy phrase "lacustrine roborant". "Chabdys" is used to describe the Harr...

Something puzzling [spoilers]

Well, at least FR was actually more of a return to form, much more in the style of the originals and a really enjoying read, could hardly put it down. I thought the previous one was to be honest, a huge disappointment, in content, writing style, editing and everything. Am now a lot more hopeful abou...

Where can I get 1st/2nd Chronicles in hardback?

I would really like hardback versions of these. Do they exist. is it possible to get them? Failing that, how hard would it be to get standard paperbacks bound into hardback versions? Has anyone done this. I am in the UK

Er. I suggest you re-read your history books, go back almost 10 years and check out "2001" before giving Star Wars all the props!

Is burgs66 actually the most arrogant [deleted] on this entire forum? <quote>This has actually been discussed before. And all those who did, myself included, were fairly well convinced that the car represented a caesure, and that the race track resembled the Arch of Time. The only question remains: ...

Will the circle be completed?

What with all the symbolism about time (the race track thing Morbius loop that Jeremiah made), the arch of time in the Land and the convergence between TC and Foul, is it possible that at some stage there'll be some kind of "circle" whereby it's shown that TC and Foul are one and the same,...

another amazon review i found hit the mark I do recall being frustrated in the first series about how many pages were dedicated to Covenant's self-examination, self-doubt and denial but I also remember some very engaging characters and subplots that provided relief. By page 388 almost NOTHING had ha...

this was supposed to be a thread about negative views, so why are some of you so keen to disparage those views. There are plenty of threads praising the book, can't we just have one single thread discussing the points we don't like The long amazon review above describes perfectly the problem. Runes ...

ur-bane, you have hit the nail on the head my friend. I agree 100%, I also don't care much for the new characters and rather than complex I just find them boring and repetitive with the way they act and talk. Totally agree about the likes of Mhoram, Bannor, Saltheart etc I think I also resent the re...

no offense intended re: fan-intense splooging. What I meant was that in the inevitable excitment of the book coming out, most of the views I've seen have been more along the lines of "wow, I got runes, woo hoo" and "hey loook, such and such a character is back". I guess it's earl...

well you only have to look at the distrust between the West and the Middle East to see how these kind of things can develop and become an unfixable divide.

Chapter by Chapter discussion of Runes?

I was a bit fed up that I missed the 1st 2 chronicles, so hopefully this time I can do a chapter, is it too soon to start thinking about it?

I think you're probably right. In a way, the book feels a bit rushed or hastily thrown together to set up stuff later in the series. Anyway, it'll be a long wait to find out if the rest of the series hits the mark. Also, perhaps this one will be better on a second read, perhaps chapter by chapter wi...

Any negative views?

I have to say that I really enjoyed parts of the book, but on some level I wasn't quite satisfied. I can't put my finger on it yet, maybe the lack of any strongly positive sections, maybe getting a bit bored of Linden's incessant self whining, overly cryptic dialogue. I am still looking forward to t...

Repeated Words

Anyone else notice that SRD seems to pick on a few words which he uses again and again, often within a few pages of each other. I think the editor didn't do a great job in picking this up, it did come across as a bit amateurish at times examples "puissant" "frangible" "succo...
