Good points, Duchess

Your post and many of the others emphasize two problems: 1. "Disturbing" things happen to members of the human race. 2. "Disturbing" things happen to the younger members of the human race. By this I mean that we, adults if you will, know that the violence SRD describes in The Gap...

Beg your pardon, TF. I got confused reading about you and your cousin Tracy and how old you were when you read TCoTC. Still, 10 year old or 12 year old, I believe the principle applies. Frankly, it always applies. I understand things now that meant nothing to me when I was half the age I am now. I f...

Think I will weigh in here with a thought or two.

One of the things that separates childhood from adulthood is the personal life experience that can only be acquired through the passage of time. No matter how bright a 10 year old is - no matter how "mature," responsible, dependable or "adult-like" - a 10 year old is a 10 year ol...

My Two Cents' Worth

No doubt someone else has already mentioned this, but I'll take the trouble to say it again. I have noticed that other discussion forums tend to group threads. KW already does that to a certain extent, e.g. "Thomas Covenant Discussion," "Mordant's Need Discussion," etc. I would p...

.

I'd like to know more about what Drinny means by "regret". I find that his description of SRD's characters aptly sums up JRRT's characters. like real people - they have tough choices, there are no simple answers, and you will probably regret whatever you do. Frodo faced no simple choices. ...

Seasauce and Hearthcoal

I'll speak for myself and Hearthcoal.

We chose our names because these Giants are:

- married (like we are - Jan. 2 was our anniversary, again!)
- important members of the ship's crew
- strong in character, very brave and resourceful (which we admire)
- in IT together

By the Way -

The Lords in TCTC can not equal the Wizards in LOTR.

The lords are only mortals with a great deal of learning, power and skill.

The Wizards are immortals: Istari, beings sent to Middle Earth by the Valar to aid the Free Peoples in their resistance of Sauron.

(Shaking head in disbelief)

You all have raised some interesting points about the women of the land, but not once have I heard you mention the single most exciting female of the lot: Hearthcoal! Of course, I'm speaking from experience here, and I realize the rest of you can only look on in envy. Remember the old commercial? I'...
