Two more so-far neglected names:

Liz Fraser of Cocteau Twins. Ethereal, magisterial, innocent, passionate, you name it....she does it.

Lisa Germano, solo artist and Prince collaborator. Her solo stuff is excellent.

Yep, forgot to mention Autechre as well, great bleeps and beats! Chemical Brothers stuff was great up until "Surrender" IMHO, anything after that hasn't really done much for me. "Dig Your Own Hole" remains one of my favourite albums ever though. Anyone who likes Interpol should a...

Anyone listen to much Electronica out there?

Including, but not exclusive to, the likes of: Plaid, Orbital, Global Communication, Monolake, Future Sound of London, Higher Intelligence Agency, Metamatics, Norken, Pentatonik, Ulrich Schnauss, Boards of Canada, Aphex Twin, Squarepusher. Plus older stuff like Kraftwerk and Jean-Michel Jarre. I can...

Could it be that the Mahdoubt is somehow connected to Lena/Elena? The Ramen would "recognise" her from both characters' long-term association with the Ranyhyn, and the breaking of the Law of Death may have consequences not yet felt by the Land. I guess Elena would be more likely, as she kn...

A question of pedantics

Was anyone surprised by the description of a singular Ramen as "Raman" within Runes? I always assumed that Ramen stood as singular as well as plural, at least it had done in previous Chronicles. My first instinct upon seeing "Raman " on the page was that it was a typo, however it...

Haruchai

High Lord Tolkien: Surely if the Haruchai had mind-speech like you describe, Stave would have known all that happened to Cail once he left Covenant after the fall of the Clave? He would know of his journey back to the Merewives and the offspring they created? Therefore he would know of Esmer, even i...

Stephen Donaldson SAVED my childhood

First read LFB aged around 14 I guess, finished the whole 1st and 2nd Chronicles within a year. Boy, did those novels save my life! From the dark depths of my depression Donaldson taught me that we can derive real-life knowledge about ourselves and our relationships to each other and the world we li...

Thanks for all the replys, it has allayed my fears a little - maybe I should just look forward to them without any sort of pre-conceived ideas of disappointment. Difficult, but I'll try!

PS Tom - hopefully it will raise a smile if I mention the phrase "Wow, Bovine intervention!"

Re: Man of Westernesse...

Hi there, Like yourself, I have re-read the 1st and 2nd Chronicles - probably 4 or 5 times in all, as well as several sessions "cherry picking" passages to read from each book. I haven't read any of them in whole for a good 5 years though, which is why I'm currently 120-ish pages into LFB....

Third Chronicles - unnecessary?

I'm quite prepared to be shot down here, but just wondered if anyone else is a little "disappointed" that SRD is going back to do a 3rd Chronicles. I read the 1st and 2nd back in my teens, going through a very difficult period in my life and I can quite honestly say that the 6 books saved ...

Is our world a hell?

I think that the people of the Land can easily relate all of the bad things that happen to some action of foul, or Drool, or some other badness like the Ur-Viles - they have something to point the finger at when bad things happen. This world - well, people do bad things just because they are bad peo...

TCTC influences on other writers

My friend recently picked up a book detailing the background, people and lands of Stephen King's "Dark Tower" series, which name-checks the literary and historical influences used in the novels. However, TCTC is not mentioned, but I found the following which seem to be more than coincidenc...
