really enjoyed Altered carbon. sort of sci fi Ray Chandler. personally I didn't find the violence overly gratuitous - that's what the critics said (presumably to excite the young male readers), but it's really not that bad. Not a huge fan of violence meself.

will be reading broken angels soonish

Last Guardian of Everness - reall good

read his sci fi Golden Age trilogy as well which I'd highly recommend - mindblowing.

Ainuindale (hope that's right) Couldn't stomach GRR Martin - I seem to be one of the few who thinks he's very overrated - superficial, poor quality world building. I found his handling of heraldry inept. Sounds a bit petty I know, but things like this just make the whole scenario seem artificial and...

read half of Curse of the Mistwraith - then gave up.

Awful - derivative and lacking any depth. I was quite surprised how bad it was after Steve Donaldson's positive comments - he's enetitled to his opinion of course, but this author's not in the same league.

finished Altered Carbon. Very good, but I'm more a Space Op rather than "cyberpunk" type of guy. Still, I'd recommend it.

Now reading the Eternal Champion by Michael Moorcock. Dated but a darn good yarn!!

No disrespect intended to anyone, but I think many of the films mentioned are pure cr*p. My point is not to denigrate anyone's opinions, but to highlight the lack of good quality fanasy films. Maybe LOTR will change all that. It's also a budget thing, I know, but true nonetheless. Rumours are that t...

I'm scared

I tried to read Shadow of the Torturer a couple of years back and gave it up. I think I was in shock at seeming to understand so little. However, I know I'm missing out and should give the books another go. But frankly, I'm scared 8O. This is heavyweight "speculative fiction". Does anyone ...

Murrin 'scuse me (I'm a bit slow), but are you saying that the publishers are ditching the Youll cack for the USA? I don't blame Youll- a professional who was comissioned to design a particular type of cover. I blame the publishers for shamelessly trying to appeal to the lowest common denominator. I...
