War of Flowers was a good story. Not as moving as MS&T and not as in depth as Otherworld, but a really good balance between the two. Ideally suited for a long car ride or rainy weekend. Cool. I'm looking forward to picking it up soon. :D Meanwhile, I've got the new book in the Recluce Saga &quo...

Shall we return to the topic? I found a bunch of DVDs at half price yesterday, so I got The Truman Story, LA Confidential, Total Recall, The Black Stallion, and Clear And Present Danger. It will take me a week to watch them. :) LA Confidential is a great movie. Gotta love Total Recall too....

The scene with the 3 books was classic. Not to mention the 3 Stooges routine with the skeletal arms... :D

Meh, I think the cover is fine...not breathtaking, but not terribly hideous either... On the original covers: was Sweet the one who turned Covenant into the Hunchback in WGW? If so, I'd have to agree that just about anything would be preferable to that kind of art-rape. I believe so, but I'll have ...

I'll take a pass on that cover, thanks. Although, it WOULD be preferable to having Darrell Sweet do the covers again....

Murrin: How was War of the Flowers? I've been trying to get a hold of it from the library but it's constantly checked out so I haven't had a chance to read it. :x

Is it as good as the Memory, Sorrow and Thorn trilogy?

I just watched Braveheart again last night, first time since it came out. Mel Gibson's accent????? What a scream. Actually, it's not that bad, although it does fall down occasionally and come out all Newcastle. It's funny also to see how many Cockney sparrows longshanks had in his men. mmmm. Awrigh...

Went to the library over the weekend and picked up some more goodies. I'm about halfway through "In The King's Service" by Katherine Kurtz.

Beats me. I'd have to guess at least 5-10 times for the First Chronicles and 3-4 times for the Second Chronicles, though. I'm most of the way through Wounded Land at the moment.

Have you seen Windtalkers yet? I was impressed by all 5 of the main actors. Cage, of course, was wonderfully anguished, but I was equally impressed by his partner (Adam Beach, I think?). Finally watched Windtalkers last night. Pretty good flick. I did like Adam Beach as well. Good performance if th...

Perhaps they froze him in carbonite and revived him each time Covenant came to the Land. :P

Seriously though, I imagine they probably had him doing other things as other people have suggested: security, scouting, war strategizing, etc.

While we're on the subject of Guy Gavriel Kay, I'd like to ask my learned colleagues here what his style is like. I've always been curious about his Fionavar Tapestry, but I haven't read it. What makes him a good author? I've tried Fionavar Tapestry but couldn't finish the first book. It wasn't bad...

Flowers for Algernon is my all-time favorite short story. I've never read the novel version. Encryptic, I agree regarding Feist. I feel his medieval background is among the best of the epic fantasy writers. Not on Martin's level, but not far behind. I, too, really liked Rise of a Merchant Prince. T...

I own it as well. Great movie that builds up a lot of tension. Colin Ferrell and Kiefer Sutherland are both pretty good.

It's historical fiction that centers around the building of a cathedral in medieval England. I read it several years back and thought it was rather good at the time.

Good points, Ur-Lord. However, what matters to us in this sense is whether the Land is real or not by the food issue. I agree that it's a psychological book (well, for me anyway), and so think the Land is not real, but others here try to prove it by looking at the changes in TC's physical self. Thi...
