I'm reading The Belgariad again - haven't picked it up since it was published, just started the first one last night, will probably hate the series but it was pretty much my first Fantasy (that along with some Piers Anthony) and I loved it back then.

My favorite part about the Trump Mexico wall (stick with me here please, even if you usually glaze over at the mention of the Fart) is from that film with Dennis Quaid and Jake thingy (sorry I can't be bothered to google it) I almost hope for the rapid desalination of the oceans bringing on a new Ic...

missing in action

I've no idea why I've been away, life - births & deaths, new jobs ( three), weddings, concerts, sporting occasions, travel, reading, swimming, doing a marathon (walking one and then running one) for Alzheimer's, trying to write my own fantasy saga, yes I guess it's called life, but it's no excus...

My all time favourite part in any of the books leads to the quote 'Stone and Sea Honninscrave - bravely done'

I love that Giant / all Giants.

Just going back to the original post - I don't think all 3 first chrons were published in '77 - I think all six books were published between '77 and '83, I could be wrong.
'77 was a good year but not that good! If the first 3 books came out in one year my head would have exploded.

The first fantasy I remember would be The Hobbit - read to us by Mr Dunn when we were 8 or 9 - I didn't really like it so much. I read the Black Cauldron and the Weirdstone of Brisingamon - when i was 11 and thought they were o.k. but the book that started my collection and really got me into Fantas...

Joe Abercrombie anyone

I wonder if anyone else is a big fan of Joe Abercrombie? He's a little like David Gemmell (on steroids!) He won't thank me for saying that I'll bet. Really, and I mean really, dark stuff and funny and crude and just brilliant. For the first time ever I felt moved to write a fanboy e-mail to his webs...

There's no contest really - FR is the best book, Sandgorgons (briefly) and Giants - beautiful Giants. I was on holiday just recently and finished FR (i started it when it came out and put it down half read) I cried when the Giants started laughing, (funny but that was the effect it had on me, real t...

Grimmand Honninscrave without a doubt, the best quote for me from all the chronicles is 'Stone and Sea Honninscrave bravely done' it makes me cry everytime - I love the Giants - all of them, but this one surpasses them all, and his death is magnificent.

I said it many times when ROTE came out, and perhaps here is not the place to say it again - haven't been slapped by a moderator for a while, but it's the whole Marty McFly element to the final chronicles that disturbs me - time travel is the worst thing to write about in my opinion. I know SD is a ...

I have a dark place in my mind, it's locked and I keep bad things in there. Memories, some real and some from books. The key is usually out of reach which is fine by me. Sometimes I jump really high and grab the key - open the door and let those damned memories out for a dance. The rape of Lena is t...

I've just finished The Blade Itself by Joe Abercrombie. I can really recommend it, just now started the second in the series - Before they are Hanged - He has a great style and the Named Man are wonderful characters - its the reason I love fantasy so much.
