Re: West Wing and the shark tank

Jimmy Smits!! (when is Ricky Schroeder due to appear?) Does anyone else see the shark tank and the Fonz's motorcycle coming up fast on the horizon? What does anyone think Mr Smits can add to the series except faux-ethnicity? And is anyone welcoming Alan Alda joining this series? Better than Smits b...

Re: What Orson Scott Card Has to Say About Drug Use...

Legalizing them will only force us to remember why we made them illegal in the first place. Because Harry Anslinger testified before Congress in 1925, saying marijuana caused people to go insane and start murdering people? Several people have mentioned in this thread the medicinal uses of cannabis....

There was also the matter of the felon lists. Felons can't vote in the U.S., but the method involved in screening felons at some polling places in Florida basically amounted to "does your name resemble any names I have in this list". Most of the names were those of ethnic minorities, due t...

So I'm watching the season premier of SG-1 (so far, so kickass) and they had a preview for the Farscape miniseries. It looked awesome. Said it's coming in October, subtitled "The Peacekeeper Wars".

I've seen a few episodes here and there, but I don't nkow the story line, does it ahve anythign to do with the movie that was released a few years back, or was this done a different way. It's mostly based on the movie, with a few details modified a bit. First thing is that the stargate can go to ma...

Re: West Wing

And losing Ainsley Hays (Emily Proctor) character was a big loss, IMO, furthermore she is almost the only reason to ever view CSI - Miami . I really liked her (both the actress and the character). I'm pretty left-wing, as Brinn can testify ;) but I really liked some of her points - in particular th...

I must admit, I'm looking forward to seeing Atlantis when it airs. I like the original SG-1 a lot but I do sometimes wonder how many times they can realistically encounter a Goa'uld lord scarier than the one they blew up last season. So a new spin on it all will be welcome. :) Yeah, I think season ...

Re: I be newbie

As you might guess from my screen name I am a big Buffy, really Jossverse in general, fan. But I have been reading and/or watching SF and F for really close to 40 yrs. now. Have been a big Star Trek fan (TOS, TNG, DS9, not so much Voyager and no Enterprise). Still of the opinion Babylon 5 was the b...

Maybe it's a sad reflection of how much credibility Star Wars has lost (and maybe even Star Trek?), that people would turn to Stargate for interesting sci-fi. Whatever turns you on, TH. :) Hehe :) Well one of the things I like about the show is that it doesn't take itself too seriously. Lucas defin...

Yeah, I was pissed off about Farscape too. But the morons running the network seemed more excited about "Tremors the Series" and "Scare Tactics" than any actually good shows like Farscape or Stargate. They seem to have since decided Stargate is good, since they only show it about...

come on, guys! it's my first thread! there's gotta be some fans here, it's been on the air for seven years now. How about favorite melodramatic bad guy quotes? "Osiris serves no one. You, least of all." Or Teal'c one-liners? "Things will not calm down. They will, in fact, calm up."

Honestly I don't see how they could have done a worse job portraying real-life politics in the new films. Giving a grandiose speech with no debate is not politics - it's melodrama (or the Bush administration). It struck me as politics as viewed by an eight year old. Disclaimer: I thought the new fil...

Pretty much. The last we hear of Jeff is Steve talking on the phone with him, with Jeff apparently on a plane to the Greek island of Lesbos.

Steve: "Well that was pretty optimistic of you, wasn't it?"
