Falcons looked GREAT in the first two games. The defense has looked much improved (maybe in the top 15). The third pre-season against Miami's front four, the Falcons offense was shredded. They took Matt Ryan out after being sacked 3 times. Now all that being said, Miami has the look of a top tier defense this year.... at least the offense for Atlanta doesnt get the big head... they arent there.. yet. But like I said, the defense looks much much better. They are fast off the line and on the ball. Zone defense which will take time to get used to.

Bengals look very good.
Bears look inept.
Titans look inept.
If Miami can get their offense going they will be hard to beat this year.

Panthers seem to have taken a step back this year. I dont see them making a run for it.

Saints look decent.. but time will tell.

Raw - the destroyed phone is the NFL trying cast shade on Brady. the NFL had no legal right to a private phone. Brady was told they had all the texts they needed. the NFL leaked texts that had nothing to do. Brady is a celebrity who has every expectation that the NFL would not keep his personal life from being leaked.

Soul - the Saints are lucky to be in the south. we know Brees should still be solid. but are the receivers good enough? can Ingram continue hi success? can Spiller fill the Sproles/Reggie Bush role in the offense? can the defense be adequate? and will the special teams still be a problem? kicking, returning, coverage. other than the punter, Morestead, the special teams have had many problems.

Like everything else in preseason. Its all an open question. There are teams that look great in preseason and then go forward to have deplorable years. There are teams that goose-egg in preseason and look inept and have great seasons. The Saints made some big moves in the offseason and not all of them (on the surface) made sense. I didnt see them giving up their best TE to the SeaHawks. He has been their play maker for the last few years. Always dependable for a catch or big play when no one else is open, and his yards after catch were typically pretty big.

The NFL has lifted Brady's suspension proving once again that the rules don't apply to the Patsies. I've said it before and I'll say it again, anyone who doesn't believe that the NFL has gone from being a sport to pro-wrestling style entertainment is fooling themselves.

I doubt I'll watch a single snap this year. The fix is in; why bother?

Well since you probably didnt watch. The Falcons scrubs were killing the Ravens scrubs last night. It wasnt until the end of the game, when they brought in the last of the scrubs that the Ravens almost tied it up. For most of the game, the Ravens couldnt convert 3rd downs.

All that being said, the Falcons Defense is so much improved, I am looking forward to this year.

the NFL needs to start a quarterback development squad, apart from the taxi squad.

right now any team can sign someone from a taxi squad, as long as they are put on the active roster.

one slot should be allotted for a developing quarterback who can be retained by the team. that way they could have someone in the pipeline.

Well the Steelers and Pats started the ball rolling for this year. About halfway through the 1st quarter it was obvious to me that the Steelers were outmatched by the Pats on offense and defense.

From a preference standpoint, I dont like either team and would have been fine if both could have lost..maybe a tie.. LOL

So from the games I watched this weekend.

GB was in great form for a first game.
Dallas looked like they can be good if they can get out of their own way and quit making stupid mistakes.
The Giants looked inept.
Even though Carolina won, they looked horrible doing it against a really bad team (Jacksonville)
The Broncos did not look good on offense but looked great on D
Arizona looked good with Carson Palmer back in the QB position.
Baltimore is in for a hard year having lost Terrell Suggs for the year.

Now.. lets talk rigged games by officials. Now that's its been brought up, I have to say its easier to see how this can happen. Cowboys Giants game. The Cowboys have self destructed in the first half and the Giants are not playing very good on Offense but the Giants are up by 2 scores. But we cant let America's team down....

3rd and long, the Cowboys take a shot at the end zone. A great pass but its defended incredibly well. Both have a shot to get the ball the CB goes up with the receiver and ends up tipping the ball away. The referee is right there.....they call Pass Interference..... What... the replay shows that there was never any contact and its a bogus call. But it gives the 'Boys' the ball at the half yard line and a new set of downs.

That call changed the momentum of the game and was such a bad call it does make you wonder...

It was a horrible call.
Agree with most of your assessment of other games/teams, too.

Adding: Buffalo looked legit...I mean, their defense already was, but the O is looking up.

Of course that means that half my friends---who were previously content to say "We got a decent chance of making the playoffs this year" will leap immediately to "We got a real shot at the SuperBowl!" based on the one game.

The Titans looked great yesterday against Tampa Bay. Dare I hope for a return to form? It's early yet.

Falcons / Eagles - On the way to the dome I kept hearing on ESPN radio how great the Eagles are and they probably will be making a run for the SB. They talked about what a mismatch this was and how it was a shame that Dan Quinn would have to get his first real game as HC with the Falcons in such a mismatch. Eagles Eagles Eagles....

Worse, the dome was crawling with Philly fans. Green all over the place...guess everyone expected a blowout.

The game was outstanding. The Falcons have a Defense this year!!!! They shut out the Eagles in the first half and only gave up 3 points. Score 20 to 3 at the half. The Falcons ground game got going and although not outstanding it was pretty good. The second half of the game was different in that the Eagles changed their game plan and started to dink and dunk for short yards and move the ball. Combined with some boneheaded throws by Matt Ryan that turned the ball over, the Eagles had gotten back into the game.

The Falcons defense finally got their crap together and got the right stops and then a miss by and Eagles receiver and interception by Atlanta, ended the game.

So a game that the Falcons were supposed to lose can be chalked up in the W column. I'm not ready to start thinking playoffs but with that kind of start and a weak division, its a possibility.

Denver plays KC tonight. Some of my friends and I have been talking about trying to make a trip somewhere to see Peyton play, one last time, before his expected retirement.

Kansas manages to give the game away. and on the last play, the Chiefs showed no hustle in trying to get to the line to snap the ball, to spike it, to kill the clock, to attempt one last Hail Mary.

3 Interceptions and 7 (8?) sacks isn't "giving up". What I saw was Brady overthrow a 30 yd TD pass on 4th and inches, then get stripped on the next drive, to hand the Bills a potential comeback they didn't deserve. Not bashing Brady (and all the records he set during that game!) ... but the Pat's D doesn't deserve all the blame for that almost-choke.

Pats made mistakes but still look strong for this early in the year. GB looked even better.

Seahawks and Eagles dropped their first two. I didnt see that coming.

Falcons win an away game against the Giants. The narrative is that the Giants beat themselves, but isn't that always the case with two fairly evenly matched teams? The Falcons gambled on their CB's and didnt move Trufant to wherever Beckam was at all times. They just let Alford figure it out and it cost them alot of plays. Eventually the defense shut that down but it was out of control for a bit.

Saints look terrible and not by a little bit. They need a full rebuild.

It's a great second week when the Saints end it 0 - 2 and the Falcons end it 2- 0. :D

Oh and did you catch that Jacksonville game? Jags needed a win in a bad way to give themselves something build on.

Yep, despite near oops, Pats shredded Buff's defense...it shouldn't have been that easy.

GB--yea...they're kinda battered on O, and still managed it.

I'm not sure anyone anywhere saw 0-2 by both those birds.
