Saisons are Belgian beers (or copies thereof). Most American drinkers aren't used to the flavors produced by Belgian yeast. They vary widely in flavor, even within a particular style, but all seem to have something weird going on: funky, spicy, clovey, peppery, bubble gummy, etc. I love them, but they're not for everyone. And there are a lot of knock-offs that just suck. Try anything from Ommegang for some great Belgian-styled American craft beer.

I got an email from my favorite local brewer and Breakout Stouts are now in bottle and ready for distribution. They also have a limited release (seasonal) Porter out for fall called "Restraining Order Porter" and they are pouring a 'brown IPA' at the brewery that wont be produced for bottling.

So I ran out and got some of the Porter and its really solid! I wouldn't say my favorite but definitely solid! Course I'm nursing a cold so I know I'm not picking up all the flavors I should be.

They are also having a Stout Night at "Jailhouse"on Dec 4 that I'm looking forward to.

Funny enough, the company I work had me working toward a way of sending 765 Wayfarers to a 3rd party company that our systems are not hooked to. They cut a PO but that didnt solve the other issue. I was able to find a work around and they sent me the shipping address. It was

The Stone Enjoy By 10-31-15 was phenomenal, as usual with that series. I also really like their 19th Anniversary Ale, the Thunderstuck IPA.

Founders ADIPA is a session IPA, clocking in at less than 5% ABV, I believe. It's a little watery, but great for something like a camping trip or working on the car, when you want a brew (or many) but don't want to get drunk. Sure beats a Bud or Coors.

Do yourself a favor and go out and get you some Lagunitas Born Yesterday. It was brewed Monday; I got mine yesterday. It's freaking wonderful.

I will be on the lookout for it!!!

I am traveling to China today... so I will fly to LAX.... 4 our layover before heading for China (15 more hours in the air). I am hoping the airport will have some interesting beers. Not sure what china will have for beers but we will see.

The All day IPA from founders was good for DFW airport since you really don't want to get on a plane snockered.

I tried a Stones 'Your father smelt of elderberries'. I was not impressed. It was OK but I really expected more complex flavors than I got. It was definitely better at about 45 to 50 degrees...but still...

I would not buy that one again.

I have not been able to drink as much beer as I'd like to lately *sniffle* The last beer I had was a... Bell's Porter! *sob!*

There are many worse last beers than Bell's Porter. As Kipling observed of men, there will always be greater and lesser; don't be distracted. Until you are able (whatever reason for the current inability) to quaff beer again, at least approach that last pint with respect for the qualities it had.

Someone's a Bell's fan ;)

In actuality, I think I've only had two truly awful Porters. Yuengling Porter and Buckeye Lake's Vanilla Porter. Usually every other kind has some good quality to it.

Like Bell's has a drinkablity to it... it certainly isn't a bad Porter to be stuck with.

Though tonight, I will have the Rhinegiest Panther (which is a Porter!) It's a seasonal, so here's hoping this season's batch was as good as last year's!
