The forest was dominated by unsettling shadows that never quite seemed to match the trees. 'Nothing good happens to people who go chasing wisps,' I thought. Birds broke out in a sudden cacophony of cackling, and a cold shiver crept down my spine.

She stared, boggling, at the cinnamon, flour and ginger.
"Clearly your kids aren't known for their stealth."
"Sorry if they woke you up!" Amelia said, as her hand itched toward the dustpan with a peculiar singlemindedness.

I've always been the sort of person who can turn an insult into an honorific title. Still, the letter I was writing required a certain amount of tact; the subject was laden with potential controversy. It didn't help that I was daydreaming about birds swooshing across a summer meadow.

My temptations to show partiality were painfully obvious to me - and yet I could not recuse myself from this conversation. I stuffed down the urges to mindlessly reuse some placation, tried to give him real patience and a little more silent ear-time. All I could think was, "That's me: the refuse of this world."

The atmosphere in the room provoked me, so I moved out onto the sun-dappled lawn to get some air. As I wandered to the irised area of boggy shade at the edge, my dowdy dirndl swooshing about my ankles, I decided without even thinking to run across the mossy plank over the rill into the forest and just keep going.

I would never be part of their clique. Their words and forms of expression were papered-over with tissue, clinquant, and doilies. Underneath, they were all clichés and plastic imitations of classic feuds.

Pumping "Sentence game" forward - thanks!

I felt insecure when I saw the way my roly-poly baby niece was posed totteringly upon a toy horse by her mom. I lifted an eyebrow, thinking to myself, "And you were just talking about how she's your legacy?" Then my game caught my eye back: "Gahh! Going down too fast - need to quaff!"

The vicious slobbering troll swung its cudgel towards me as its protruding lower fangs glinted in the moonlight.

I truly wasn't worried about the safety of my skull, as I was wearing a solid metal helmet begemmed with thick diamonds.

Nevertheless, the light mail I had donned meant I had to strive to avoid that weapon contacting my body!

I felt like a lackey wielding a large utensil in a land war. The document I was about to submit was emblematic of failure. If only I could be using my metaphorical wooden spoon to just like, beat a metal cookpot on the sidelines to encourage the troops, instead of being sent in to the front to fight with it.

The violet sky settled down on my shoulders with an air befitting twilight's usual courtesies. A swoosh of the evening breeze carried a warble from far away. If only this moment - with God's kindness so evident - were only what all my days and nights were like.

Being the holiday season, it seemed it was time for Gina to go to her pantry and look for what she had stored that would contribute to this year's family dinner.
Far back on the topmost shelf, she spied a jar of pickled baby corn ears that she had forgotten about.
She wanted to seize it and use it for the tossed salad she was planning to serve.

Bob had been blackmailed into using his fortune to underwrite X-Mart's insurance policy. He took a perverse sense of satisfaction in adding a few items to the fine print. As of Monday, they would all have to refer to him as Emperor.

The dappled Lippizanner stallion whisked his tail and collected himself into a tightly-controlled walk, rising about six inches.
As the horse and rider on screen were poised to execute the next set of precise maneuvers in beautiful unity, my youtube stream choked.
I looked up and glanced around my apartment, noting the haphazard display of soda cans, pizza boxes, and flannel shirts crowding the chair next to me.

The woolen socks were slipped on Bri's chilled feet as soon as she was awakened for school.
Next her aunt made sure she had a steaming bowl of vegetable soup before going out the door to await the bus.

We demand 2 more sentences.

but umm, so is this, apparently. Whoops, my bad! 8O

Not doing three sentences because anything from that mythology stuff cries "Sorus".... umm... and/or because I am kind of ignorant...

I'm sure you'd do fine - one doesn't have to be 100% mythologically correct in a Mallory game.

Still, I will accept the challenge.

Persephone scowled at the gilt-edged invitation postmarked from Mount Olympus. The wording was cordial enough on the surface, but it could also carry the implication that only a rube would spend the Dionysia Festival in the Underworld. She sensed Hera's hand in the phrasing, though she would have to tread carefully - it wouldn't do to make a fallacious accusation.

Because the kids were acting unusually hyper this morning, it seemed fitting to give them their sleds as presents before the holiday had arrived.
That way, they could use up their excess energy sliding down the serpentine pathway on the high hill a few stone's-throws away.
Now that the wood was all cut for the winter, there was nothing else to be done for exercise.
