I don't think there's any question but that birth rates in third world countries are higher than in the first world. Not all of this is set of by higher infant mortality rates, according to Brinn's link, so their population growth is also higher. Also if you look at stats like Congo's 6.69 children born per woman...wow. Eudcation and access are big issues for birth control. I think this is also tied into women's rights/issues.

I also remember reading something that among developed Western countries the U.S. has one of the highest (14.14 the Aneki site says). Thought that was interesting.

Highest what? Birth rate? Infant mortality rate? I doubt that either is true, unless we're counting abortions in there....that certainly would raise the numbers.

Please open your eyes...
Human race has got evil in it.
I care not only about our natural enviroment, but I'd like the evil to be stopped. Every human being has some evil within, more or less.
I'm sorry, but many wise people tried to figure out some solution, and they were left with nothing or (what is much worse) they "produced" even more evil. I think that human extinction is the only way to stop the torture and torment of humans and animals. The suffering must be stopped.
It's not only the matter of plants and animals, but suffering.
People torture another people and animals.
Look at all the wars. People haven't learned anything about decreasing amount of evil within through the ages. Why? Because it's impossible.
Human extinction is the only way o stop the horror.
That's a pity that so few people care about it.
The rest is too blind and selfish, I'm afraid.

Oh, please. There is nothing of eternal value on this planet except for us. So, rather than try to exterminate us, why don't you dedicate you life to cutivating that part of us which is good, that parth which is eternal. Unless, of course, you believe cows go to heaven. THen, become a cattle farmer.

I don't know what humans go to when they die. For that matter, I don't know where cows go off to either. I've got a good idea, but it's merely an idea and does no good talking about it. In the end, I see no proof that humans are "the chosen ones" and deserve more than any other species on the planet. We feed and sleep like every other animal. What sets us apart? Our art? Our music? Our beliefs? We only have those because our brains have the capacity for it. I'm sure if ducks or dogs had the same capacity, they'd be just like us. They can't help it, though. It's the cards nature handed them for survival. Respectively, they gave us our minds for survival. And if we go extinct one day, then our value isn’t “eternal“, eh?

Eternal value is in the eye of the beholder.

Myself, I just don't buy that humans are intrinsically more important than anything else. (I don't think we should go extinct, either, mind you, just do a *much* better job of keeping our planet nice 'n' clean.)

hello again

Hello again.

I'm back for a while.
Do you know that there is a Negative Population Growth in 17 European countries already, and that there are going to be more?
Here are these countries:
Bulgaria, Belarus, Ukraine, Russia, Hungary, Poland (yesss!), Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Georgia (Gruzja), Czech Republic, Romania, Germany, Italy, Austria, Greece and Sweden.
In Western Europe countries there is a positive net migration rate, so the number of inhabitants is increasing because of the immigrants. But in Central and Eastern Europe countries it's negative, so the population of these countries is decreasing.
The fastest decrease: Bulgaria, Ukraine, Russia, Latvia.

Give me a break. Or, even better, start using some of that 'survival tool' of yours. and ask yourself some interesting questions, like:

We need art and music. Why?

We need to explore everything we can, and that has led us to look at other galaxies, in hopes of one day reaching them. Why?

And finally, most importantly: If we become extinct, then who will run the VHEM site? :screwy:

Just the fact that we humans are able to articulate these thoughts should be evidence enough that we are clearly agents of Satan. Er...I mean for good and are the obvious masters of all we survey. Look at the splendor of our accomplishments. Witness the awe inspiring spectacle that is....the internet, a resouce more wonderous than the fabled Oracle at Adelphi. I believe man must procreate so that there can be more beings like dAN roaming this beautiful blue planet. Imagine a world without humans and you will imagine a world without the likes of dAN. I for one cannot.

Any human who wants to be extinct because he's too lazy to better the earth or mankind is stupid enough to deserve what he wants. Just don't ask any other humans to join you, you VHEM dolts.

Well doesn't activism start at home? If the VHEM supporters truly believed in the cause shouldn't they have offed themselves already? Why talk about extinction when you can start the process one believer at a time? ;)
War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself.
