Luke Cage

Post by Hashi Lebwohl »

The first trailer for Luke Cage from San Diego Comic-Con. Awesome.

Incidentally, the music from the trailer is Shimmy Shimmy Ya by Ol' Dirty Bastard from 1995.

Rumors are that Tombstone might show up. That is about the right kind of threat to face off against Luke--someone who is on the same level that he is.

I've seen the first episode only. I really like the actor chosen to play Luke Cage, it's great casting. I found the first episode a bit off-putting. I think it was the director's choices that seemed strange to me. Still, I'm intrigued enough to keep watching.

The Cottonmouth character doesn't seem like a villian strong enough to stand against Luke. I need to see more from him.

I finished the season yesterday, really enjoyed it. I'd say it's closer to Daredevil S1 than anything else, though it's its own thing. The villains aren't as compelling as Killgrave or Fisk, though.

Binge-watched it over the weekend, all 13 episodes.
Spoiler
Cottonmouth was a decent enough character but only copycat as a villain--he wanted to be Fisk but never had the absolute control or loyalty Fisk engendered in his people. Diamondback, on the other hand, is a pretty compelling monomaniacal villain. I like Shades--despite the fact that there are no surprises with his character he plays the part well--but wasn't too keen on Mariah because she never could decide who she was trying to be.

Is the corporation behind Seagate the same as the corporation who was testing on those kids who went through Trish's mother's studio in Jessica Jones? Isn't it also the same corporation for whom Killgrave's parents were working?

Where did they get the metal for the Judas rounds?

Finally, now that the information on Reva's USB stick is active and in play I wonder what the fallout will be?

Spoiler
There must be a connection between Seagate and Killgrave's parents, because the video of the experiments was on Reva's USB, wasn't it? There's also some connection between Diamondback, Seagate, and Hammer Tech.
Diamondback's suit has to be the military skin tech that Burstein said they had worked on. That would appear to be confirmed when Burstein is the doctor treating Diamondback at the end. And Diamondback had access to lots of top secret Hammer tech that wasn't available to anyone else as far as we can tell. Seems like Hammer and Seagate have to be connected.

Just finished the 2nd episode....it is about a super hero right? It gets better? Right now it's boring as hell.
The characters are fantastic. i love the casting except for the male detective partner. Everything he says is a cliche.

Detective Scarfe is a cliche, which explains why he is so two-dimensional. Luke would tell you that he isn't a hero, only a man who wishes to be left alone.

Back to Murrin's comments....
Spoiler
Hammer Technologies must indeed be behind Seagate, which is clearly stated to be a privately-run prison. I don't think Killgrave's parents worked at Seagate, though, even though Reva had some of their files on her stick. She might have copied them from the computers at Seagate or she might have been stationed elsewhere before taking the position as "prison counselor".

Diamondback was probably a Hammer contractor, selling weapons to mercenaries and governments around the world, which explains how he has access to military hardware. Hammer probably didn't know that he was skimming and selling on the side....or....they may have known but didn't care because sales are sales and Diamondback's clients would have been very satisfied with their purchases.

Wouldn't the footage of Luke being shot to no effect and throwing the cop into the cruiser bring him to the attention of SHIELD, not to mention the Avengers? I wouldn't look for any Coulson cameos any time soon, though.

You've got that right - I'm 3 episodes into this and not motivated to keep watching.

Yup, there's definitely a connection.
