Amazing Spider-man 2

Post by aTOMiC »

Well, I resisted as long as I could. It took a sick day for me to be so bored that I finally watched Amazing Spider-man 2.

My complaints about the first ASM film are registered in the ASM thread.

First of all my initial reaction was not good.

ASM and ASM2 are the Batman Forever and Batman and Robin of the Sony Spider-man series. There were moments in ASM2 that felt like they were directed by Joel Schumacher which is definitely not a good thing.

Andrew Garfield continued to annoy as Peter Parker. I never imagined Peter as coming off like a semi-tough from the Jersey Shore and that's what Garfield's portrayal reminds me of.

Jamie Foxx's Electro and his alter ego Max reminded me of Jim Carey's Riddler though as Electro the character eventually became at least somewhat serious at the end.

Actually the reason I watched ASM2 today is because I am a fan of Paul Giamatti and I never got to see what he did with his character in the film. Now I know it was a complete waste of his and my time.

I found most of the plot to be somewhat pointless and though the inspiration for Peter's parents being somehow linked to Norman Osborne comes from the comics I found that as asinine as some of the other, ridiculous coincidental links that have cropped up over the years. Everyone Peter has ever known, including Aunt May, has somehow become either a super villain or a super hero which is incomprehensible.

But that's me.

And, though I hardly ever pay much attention to such things, the musical score for ASM2 sounded like a music school dropout composed it. There were times during the film that it seemed the musical cues had nothing to do with what was happening on screen. Just a lazy, reoccurring melody theme was played over and over without rhyme or reason. I haven't checked to see who was responsible but compared to other films with this kind of budget it was a train wreck.

I finally know now why this film was hated by some as I share their disdain. I'm glad this series is over and with Spider-man Homecoming we have a chance to put this misstep behind us.

Just my opinion of course. I know some of you liked this film. No offense meant.
