Long time...
Hey, everyone. Long time no see.
Last time I was on this forum was in 2008 so I feel like a noob since I had to reactivate my membership here.
I've resently been re-reading Lord Foul's Bane because I'm working on my senior thesis for my undergrad. My thesis title is "Out of the Nursery and into Mordor: Making a Case for the Fantasy Genre as Literature." My two primary sources are LoTR and TCTC so I'm trying to remember things I've forgotten.
Looking forward to catching up.

Thank you so much! I'd already read his Epic Fantasy and the Modern World essay (which was amazing) but I had not heard of this one. Perfect!wayfriend wrote:
You will definitely want to check out Epic Fantasy: Necessary Literature by Stephen R Donaldson.

"People without hope not only don't write novels, but what is more to the point, they don't read them.
They don't take long looks at anything, because they lack the courage.
The way to despair is to refuse to have any kind of experience, and the novel, of course, is a way to have experience."
-Flannery O'Connor
"In spite of much that militates against quietness there are people who still read books. They are the people who keep me going."
-Elisabeth Elliot, Preface, "A Chance to Die: The Life and Legacy of Amy Carmichael"

Nice to have you back.
Dandelion don't tell no lies
Dandelion will make you wise
Tell me if she laughs or cries
Blow away dandelion
I'm afraid there's no denying
I'm just a dandelion
a fate I don't deserve.
