Avengers Infinity War Trailer

Post by Hashi Lebwohl »

I thought they were going to have this ready to have as a preview for Ragnarok but they didn't. Still, the first actual trailer for Infinity War has finally dropped and it has been worth the wait. All the major characters from the last 10 years are present, making it safe to say that this movie will do what no movie before it has done.

Several of the big-name actors' contracts with Marvel Studios are also expiring after Infinity War 2, so it is possible we may see something else we haven't seen in superhero movies before--a character death.

Infinity War is still set to release 4 May 2018, which is just over 5 months from now.

Johanssen's Black Widow is now sporting blonde hair. *shrug* Okay.

I have to admit that I am curious how Thanos is going to beat Dr. Strange when Strange has access to the Eye of Agamotto, giving him control over time. I suppose the best way to beat it is with the Reality Gem.

Finally, I am still convinced that the Orb is the Soul Gem and the Aether is Power, but I am willing to admit that Aether could be Reality since it is fluid. Once Thor and Loki get back to Earth there will be three Stones on the same planet--a tempting target for anyone.

Watched the trailer shortly after it dropped and was...well...delighted.
My reaction was that if THIS is what they are willing to show us I can't wait to see the entire film.

Which is what a proper trailer is supposed to do.

Willing to give a "wait and see" pass on the Thanos cgi.

I don't think Thor and Loki are making it back to Earth with the infinity stone Loki has, tbh. They encountered Thanos' ship in space already, and I suspect an early bit of the film is Thanos defeating the Asgardians, leading to the shot in the trailer of Loki holding the Tesseract, and then Thor getting picked up by the Guardians.

On the other hand, Loki knows how to use the Tesseract so he may be the reason Thanos finally finds his way onto our doorstep. If he uses it to get the remaining Asgardians to Earth all at once, then Thanos will follow right behind them so he can get his hands on it.

Don't forget--Loki already knows who Thanos is and might suspect what his game plan is. He has been holding that card extremely closely to his chest since 2012.

Loki is stepping over bodies on what looks like a wrecked spaceship and then offering the cube to someone - either to bargain for his life (Loki has a habit of siding with the bad guys when it's convenient in the comics) or, as you say, as part of some trick.

But then, the first two gems in Thanos' gauntlet are purple and blue: the Orb and the Tesseract. The brief shot of him putting the blue gem in place doesn't show much background, but could easily match the burning ship Loki was on (I'm pretty sure the shot immediately after of Thanos with flames behind him is from a different scene from the close-up of the gem going in).

...Now I'm wondering what's up with the Aether, which would be a red stone. Wasn't that also in the Asgard vault?

I found the last part of the trailer quite moving, in that it made me happy.

There is NO HINT in this trailer that it is part one of a two-part movie.

Which means prepare for the cliff-hanger of all cliff-hangers.

(I have a cynical suspicion that the last scene in the trailer is the last scene of part one, which would make me mad, as they would have spoiled it.)

They changed their mind about it being a big two-part thing. It may not completely close the story, but it's going to be two distinct films.

No, Volstagg and Sif gave the Aether to The Collector in an after-credit scene of Dark World. He briefly had access/control of two Stones but the Guardians took the Orb with them after Carina blew up. Supposedly they gave it to the Nova Corps but I still suspect Quill kept it because he didn't trust them enough--no one actually opened the container and we already know he switched containers twice in their first movie.

I can't wait to hear what the budget is for this movie!
The cast payroll alone is going to be epic.
