Hap and Leonard
Has anybody watched this yet? I heard that season 2 was starting and didn't know season 1 had begun, and then found it on Netflix.
I loves me some Hap and Leonard in the book form from Joe Lansdale, probably the friendliest professional author I have met. I've read a heap of the Hap and Leonard books, but not the latest.
I watched episode 1 and it shows promise, but just curious of any other opinions.

Binged it in a night. Really enjoyed it, loved that it was set in the '80s (with everything that goes along with that).

I just finished it recently, and really liked Season 1. It was my least favorite of the books I've read, and actually Mucho Mojo (which is what season 2 is drawing from) was the first of the Hap and Leonard books I read, so I'm hoping a) that the original is as good as I remember it, and b) that the series improves upon the first. And from the reviews I've read, it looks like it does.

Agreed, the second season was better, in no small part to the lack of Christina Hendricks (ugh).

Fantastic conclusion to Season 3, even if it doesn't match the book. It's been probably 20 years since I read the book, but dug it out and paced through it a bit. The book and the show are definitely different experiences - the book is a lot more profane and funny. But the show really punches pretty hard. I really hope they keep making the series. Next season they would probably take on the book Bad Chili.

Huge change in tone this season, but my God was it good. The scene in the alley shook me but hard.Cagliostro wrote:Fantastic conclusion to Season 3, even if it doesn't match the book. Really, really excellent series. Great writing and acting.

I'd definitely encourage reading the books, and whatever you can get your hands on from Joe Lansdale. He is fantastic, and highly recommend The Bottoms, which feels a lot like To Kill A Mockingbird to me and while different, is about as good. Supposedly Bill Paxton was working on making a movie of that book before he died, which makes his death even more of a pity.
And for a bit of fun, his Drive-In books.
And if you've not seen the movie Bubba Ho Tep, I would definitely recommend that movie, based off of Joe's work as well.
