Well then maybe I should put you in the 2nd wave--if you're not that confirmed-you are not bring ALL these people to the dinner are you? What type of camping are you talking about? There is a very nice KOA with all the facilities in town-the nearest campsite is about an hour away in the Mts.

I am coming one way or another, even if I have to fly with only my youngest. If I do that I will get a motel room. If I camp a KOA is perfect. As for dinner, if I came with my parents, no I would not bring them with me which is the most likely arrangement. If I came out there with my friend and his kids, I would most likely leave the some of the kids with him while I go to the dinner (most likely will have to bring either my oldest or my youngest).
If women were in charge, the military would have to do bake sales in order to buy more weapons.

SQ'70, how old are your kids? Mine are 15 & 17 and I'm not bringing them to the dinner, mainly because they haven't read the books and would be bored silly. And noooobody wants to be around a bored teenager....
But seriously, and believe me I understand completely about the whole babysitter thing (I'm a single parent, too), you might want to think twice about bringing any of your kids to the dinner unless they're SRD fans. We're probably going to want to sit there for some time after we've eaten, chatting with SRD, and I wouldn't want for *you* to miss a moment of it because your attention is divided between SRD and your offspring.
Just a suggestion. Like I said, been there, done that. Babes-in-arms aren't usually a problem in a restaurant (either they sleep or they, y'know, eat), but maybe we can set up some kind of sitter (maybe my kids?) for the older kids?

I talked to my dad about going. It doesn't look very likely because it's right in the middle of my swim season and he probably will be busy... but Danlo, if you could send me the details anyway that would be fabulous because the more I know about it the better my chances get. I would really love to meet all of you (and of course SRD
) so I'll see what I can do, but I'm not getting my hopes up

Mine are 8 (9 on the 30th just after this event), 5 (6 in mid July), and 3. I know my youngest will be a royal pain in the butt-monkey. My other two are good and can behave for long periods of time, but they are too young to appreciate the conversation. If I don't end up leaving them with the person I come with, then we might want to arrange for your kids to babysit. I have absolutely NO intention of bringing them to the dinner unless I absolutely have to. Yikes. lolaliantha wrote:SQ'70, how old are your kids?

I'm there in spirit.

I wish you could, too.
For those who wish to travel on to the Canyons:
at the Grand Canyon so far everyone is staying at the Maswick Lodge and Cabins. It is in the park, a few minutes' walk from the South Rim. There is also a large campground nearby. There is a cafteria type of restaurant and a sports bar at Maswick, fancier (and more expensive) restaurants at some of the other lodges.
I have been to the park before, though we stayed at a different lodge then, and it is very dark there at night walking from one building to another. So if people want to bring flashlights, that might be a good idea.
Needless to say, it is a great place for star gazing.
At Canyon de Chelly, people are staying at the Holiday Inn in Chinle, AZ, near the gate to the park. There is a full service restaurant there, and camping nearby. You can book guided tours of the park at the hotel.
