Ok, anybody is welcome to make their own Recommendations thread, but the rule in this one is you can only talk about bands mentioned in this thread or bands musically, historically, or thematically related to other bands in the thread. A bit egocentric, I know.

The only ones I know I've heard are GnR (the music's not bad, and sometimes very good, but I HATE his voice!) and Pearl Jam (Not bad, but I only barely know them.). So no vote.

I know APC, Alice in Chains, GnR, Jerry Cantrell, Queens of the Stone Age and of course Pearl Jam. All of which I like, but I don't know the rest.

So I would vote for "Some's ok, I guess"

Is it the EP or the subsequent album? I only have the EP, but it's damn fine.

All in all, your list rocks. I haven't heard them all, but I've heard a fair portion. Good choices.

Yeah, finally found a few tracks off Kazaa. Nightendday, Pulse, Mammoth, FNT, and GW. Really good stuff.

If you like Pelican, I've just found another band, Mastodon, that you might really enjoy. The name kind of says it all.

You might like Budgie, Cov. Good classic rock sound. They're Welsh.

This site has some good tracks for download. Prog metal type stuff. Makes me think of a slightly less radio-friendly Audioslave.

And for some straight up geek metal, I found the band Blind Guardian. A little older sounding, but some of the tracks I found have titles like By the Gates of Moria, Gandalf the Magician, The Hobbit, Excalibur, and so on.

Haha, I've heard of Blind Guardian - I've been labouring under the impression that they're a bit power metal...and with titles like those, I'm probably right

Still, I'll grab a song while I'm here.

In fact, I'll sample as many as possible of those bands you've just mentioned. I've learnt to trust your judgement in music

As for Pelican - I have the 4-track self-titled EP, and Mammoth is my favourite on there at the moment. As I think I mentioned elsewhere, when the thick guitar sound kicks in after 30-odd seconds...

I have nearly all of the ablums from these bands. I've seen Tool and Pearl jam in concert and I own NIN's All that could Have been DVD.

Helmet is alright, not my bag

Clutch is pretty cool, haven't heard anything from them since High School(read nearly 10 years)

I never could get into Ween.

Hey, I was just browsing reviews of Blind Guardian cds on Amazon, and I noticed one of them has a song called *gulp* "Nom the Wise"

There's a lot of those bands on that list that I think are just alright, as well. The only Helmet I can really get into is Meantime and a couple tracks off Betty. If I was feeling brave, I'd list all the bands I have CDs and files of.

Clutch just put out a new CD. I need to pick it up. Same with the new Bad Religion. I think there's even a new QOTSA EP out. Dangit, I need to start updating the new release thread again.

Good to see a fellow QOTSA and Toadies fan. It seems like we're about the same age and have similar tastes in music. You should post your picks (as should anybody else).

Ok, I just ordered some Clutch, Budgie, Megaherz (from a recommendation at the Tower), Paw, Mastodon, Fu Manchu (because I've always wondered) and Calexico. Ah, the benefits of getting a cheque from your mum on your birthday

This Haven (that you linked to, above) are pretty good too. Next up, a Blind Guardian song.

Most of them were special request things, and after a few months I got bored of waiting, so I cancelled. Got Clutch, Mastodon, Megaherz and Blind Guardian though. That's pretty much in order of preference. Clutch are a great band

I think my favourite of their songs at the moment is Profits of Doom.
