What happened to Korik's fragment of the Illearth Stone?
I woke up this morning and for some reason this thought popped into my head: What happened to the fragment of the Illearth Stone that Korik and company intended to bear back to Revelstone?
We know that the Stone corrupted them and they ended up going to Foul's Creche to battle Foul. Did Foul keep the Stone fragment or did the Bloodguard still have it when they were sent back to Revelstone?
My nutty theory is that they lost it somewhere in the midst of the Land and it lay there for a few thousand years until Stonemight Woodhelven came into being. This seems a bit more plausible than Fleshharrower somehow managing to lose a piece of the Stone somewhere (as Covenant thinks might have happened).

Great question, Encryptic. I'd sort of assumed that Foul took possession of Korik's fragment in the process of taking possession of Korik.
After all, the stone had served its purpose by then.
The most plausible reason I can think of for the corrupted three taking it back to Revelstone with them would be if it was needed to sustain the "possessed" state--if Korik et al. would have come back to themselves without it (at least enough to become aware of what had happened, if only to despair rather than to repent
). If that were the case, then their losing it en route is improbable. If they had brought it all the way back to Revelstone, surely someone lore-wise enough to recognize--and destroy?--it would have seen it. First Mark Bannor would by then have known not to touch it with a ten-foot pole, but could easily have summoned one of the Lords to deal with it.

Re-attached it to the larger Stone? Is there an "Illearth Super Glue" or something?dlbpharmd wrote:Seems like we've discussed this in another thread, I'll try to find it. The general consensus from that discussion was that Foul probably kept the Stone fragment or perhaps even re-attached it to the larger Stone.
That would be a great advertising pitch for the manufacturer...
"Strong enough to resist corruption by the Illearth Stone!"

The thought at the time was that if LF had the power to strike fragments from the stone then he certainly had the ability to re-attach a fragment.
It makes sense that Foul kept the fragment, as Korik et al clearly did not have the fragment with them when they marched on Revelstone. I don't buy the argument that Korik and company lost the fragment and that it eventually became the Stonemight, although I do admit that the provided story of the Stonemight coming from Fleshharrower's fragment is a stretch.

There was another discussion of this somewhere, and I remember it going the way dlb does...
I'm not sure if it was in this forum or in Dissecting, but if I can find it, I will bump it up.
In TWL, I believe it at least implies that the fragment that corrupted Woodhelvin came from the chunk that Fleshharrower was carrying when he went to war against the Lords.
Since nothing is stated in the text what happened to Korik's piece, I wouldn't be surprised to see it pop up somewhere in the Last Chrons. It's a nice little dangling bit SRD can use.
