New Group Read: The MAN WHO mysteries

Post by Dragonlily »

With the increasing interest in the MAN WHO mystery series, we have decided to open a group read hosted by Kastenessen and myself, working our way through the “Reed Stephens” novels:

THE MAN WHO KILLED HIS BROTHER
THE MAN WHO RISKED HIS PARTNER
THE MAN WHO TRIED TO GET AWAY
THE MAN WHO FOUGHT ALONE

A number of you have expressed an intention of reading them. Now is a good time, so you can take part in the dissections and other fun stuff.

We plan to get off to a running start, so we are not going to take sign-ups for a whole book at a time, just add people in as they want to join. We are thinking about doing one chapter a week – easy to keep up with. If you have chapters you especially want to do, pm either of us to get dibs on them.

You can order the first three books of the series here if you don’t have them. They are the new revised versions, all in one volume.

Hi All,
I have already read the first two, and own the last but have been unable to obtain a copy of the third. A good friend in Scotland offered to buy me the "Three-in-one" edition from Amazon.com/uk just before Christmas 2003 and after two emails from Amazon delaying shipment, he just received a reply saying the books are not available. Does anyone have any idea where I can obtain a copy of the third book (I am in Canada)?
As an aside; the first and last (I own) are the re-prints authored under SRD, but the 2nd is the original authored by "Reed Stephens".

Darth, do you know where the Omnibus Reed Stephens is selling right now? I got it at a secondhand store in Oregon, and kastenessen got it from Amazon UK.

Or if worst comes to worst, the hardcover of THE MAN WHO TRIED TO GET AWAY will be generally reissued, in the revised SRD version, in October or November of this year.

Found it!!

My daughter decided the best way to spend mother's day was to go to our local secondhand book store. I have been there before looking for "....tried to get away" with no luck ( they didn't have any of the series), BUT pure luck they had one today, the only one of the series too. I too had searched ebay and halfbay.com and only found the book at around $100 asking price, found it today for $1.95!! Of course I have no intention to sell it after all I went through to find it, but it feels as if I gave myself a hundred dollar mother's day present. Can't wait to sit down and read it :D

WOW!!!

Skydreams, that is a real windfall. Don't forget us as you read. We have a special thread dedicated to that book. :)

I think it's his best mystery plotting. See what you think.

Thanks Joy, I'm not a big Mystery Novel fan and originally bought these books only because they were written by SRD. I prefer Fantasy and Sci-Fi but figured anything written by SRD had to be good. I was right, I did enjoy the first two and am looking forward to reading the last two. Although to be honest, in my opinion, it's a good thing I found them now if they had to compete with The Last Chronicles they wouldn't have a chance.
