Get off my propatah!!!respect your authoritah

I agree with that plan! It would definitely fix things up, imo!
One more thing I'd like to say. I like the ASOIAF board, but it's huge! Look at it, and one may see the Watch's future, where there are millions of members all trying to talk about something discussed loong ago. Be wary.

I'm not sure how we can avoid growth .. especially if its inevitable ..
Seasauce has posed an excellent means of keeping things organised .. I think this should definately help to keep things that bit more orderly ..
There will always be some overlaps .. as Seasauce said .. and as long as we handle with care the task of maintaining order .. ie: not getting overly militant .. and accepting some small slips .. cos there will always be those who mis-post and dont look for earlier topics .. we will stil retain our happy little Watch community ..
the Watch has always been that little bit more of a smaller select community .. and in comparison to sooo many other forums out there ... it is still a relatively small board.

It's not the size that matters; it's the quality of the members.

"It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”

True. There is a possible way to avoid that, but it gets complicated. Dedicate a portion of the Watch to a members only area. Select any or all members of the current Watch population to receive access, only allowing anyone else to enter if they've been nominated from within and received a majority vote of approval. That way if you get bad seeds you can keep them from the heart of the harvest. It could feasibly make the rank system a little more practical.
*shrug* Currently, though, I think Kevin's Watch is awesome how it is.

Speaking as a newbie, I would be very put off by being told to check archived threads (though I accept FAQ are necessary). I joined so that I could have some sort of interaction with other readers, not to read about stale topics that nobody is interested in discussing anymore. If we're boring you, create a new discussion category for us so we can chatter away happily at the kids' table.
That said, this is a great site. I'm so happy I've found it and you all make everyone feel very welcome. I'm sure that won't change no matter what you decide to do.

p.s. Actually, if you wanted to create a newbie discussion, I'd be happy to be one of the moderators.

I'd like to see as little moderation as possible - but that doesn't necessarily mean less moderators. I understand the need for rules and guides etc but don't think they should be shoved in front of someones face (so to speak) - I figure we were all newbies once and in many respects we remain newbies.
At the same time, I don't think certain kinds of behaviour should be tolerated at all. ANYTHING related to HACKING of the forum/passwords etc will result in all forms of possible banning being applied immediately.
Besides that, I figure we're all bright, articulate, multi-talented people that sometimes get a bit highly strung and have the potential to be "pissy" (if that's a word
) every now and then....I have NO idea where I'm going with this....I need to learn NOT to type at 1am
but I hope you get the gist of what I'm trying to say...

Dutchess - While typing this I heard them discuss panckis on WGN radio. Apparently the announcer found some with fresh fruit filling. I've got to make a run to find some this morning.

Haha! I have a solution! I call it...newbie crackdown!
members cannot make a new thread until after they've made x-amount of posts (20-30?) That way, by then they'll know that we already have a million threads about the 3rd Chrons etc. However, we shouldn't encourage posting 10-20 times a day, or else that defeats the entire purpose of the concept!

Dunno, seems kind of fair to me. Not saying they can't post, just can't throw out a bunch of new/redundant threads. If they go over the old threads and don't see what they want to discuss, they can msg a moderator or one of us to get us to post it.
