Dreading the new Star Wars movie (with possible spoilers)

Talk about both the movies and the books.

Are you looking forward to the final Star Wars movie?

I dread it more than the day I hear about the Yoda porn video

Rotten Tomatoes list it at 58% currently. So much for it exceeding my expectations. I'm settin' 'em low, boys.
Pity, though, because if anything, the Mandalorian is proving Star Wars can be done well, and they need to get better writers to do the movies. I really don't like that whoever they had as the director also as the writer. It's what made the Holy Trilogy (as Kevin Smith calls it) work, for the most part. Lucas wrote it all, and the directors after him took it from there. A clear story was told, for the most part. I think if Lucas didn't direct the prequels himself, they would have been much improved. I think Disney is driving talent away and trying to play too safe, at least with the movies, especially after what happened with the making of Solo. I wonder what it would have been if they didn't have Ron Howard come in and "fix" it. The original Star Wars looked like a mess to everybody who saw it before Lucas threw it all together, and look what happened with that. I can't tell if Solo didn't work because of the silly things they were doing or because Ron Howard smoothed the edges, but I liked that movie more than any of the other movies since Lucas hasn't been involved.
I'll definitely be seeing this one, and preferably as soon as possible so I don't get spoilers, but I really wish they hadn't gone with JJ Abrams on this. He's good at beginnings, but not necessarily endings. Kind of like Stephen King.

Haven't watched a single trailer or preview.

Haven't read a single article.

I did two things:

Looked at the title: Rather disappointing. Sure, I know it's the Skywalker trilogy of trilogies, but who's the new Skywalker they reference? If it's Rey, then the fact that they had a deliberate lie in the second film of this series is deeper than most Disney or SW films are willing to go.

Second, I looked at the writers: J. J. Abrams (not impressed), and a writer from Batman V Superman & Justice League.

This movie is going to be a mother forking train wreck, and possibly the last Star Wars movie I ever see in theatres.

Star Wars is now sugary buttered popcorn that tastes like shit and sells for $15 / bucket at your local movie theatre.

Force Awakens? A nice re-tread of the original.
Solo? I literally fell asleep twenty minutes in.

The only one in the last forty years worth mentioning is Last Jedi which challenged me at first but I then grew to love as the best since Empire. Talking with other SW fans, I am very much in the minority: They don't want challenging, they don't want different, they don't want nuance.

They want the same sugary fizz-pop they got from The Force Awakens and Baby Yoda.

I'm seeing the movie tomorrow night with a group of friends, but I fully expect to hate it, and I doubt I'll ever watch another SW film. SW, like the Marvel movies, is aimed at marketing rather than story telling, and I've simply out-grown the franchise.

Definitely with you on the Marvel movies.

I liked the approach of Last Jedi, but the execution sucked. I want different, and I think Lucas delivered different, but did too much himself after losing his touch, and they mostly sucked, and mostly because the dialogue was so cringe-worthy. I'd love to see someone remake those movies with better dialogue and see if it fixes it. We could even keep Jar Jar in as he plays a crucial role, but don't make him a clown.
And lose little Anakin blowing up the base in Episode 1 by accident.

But don't take away my Baby Yoda.

Have you seen the Darth Jar Jar theories? Now that would have been a good twist and a nice parallel to the original trilogy with Yoda being so whimsical when first introduced.

Jar Jar introduced the bill into the Senate to give Palpatine the emergency powers he needed to form the Army.

In that scene, Jar Jar is wearing the symbol of the Crimson Dawn, the organization apparently headed by Darth Maul in Solo.

I hated all the sequels, they look great but terrible directors.
I too went to see ANH in the cinemas the year it came out as a 9yr old... 17 times.
I am lost... then came The Mandalorian.
