Sorus wrote:I like that. I wish I could write poetry. I'm too confined by the fear that I am 'doing it wrong'.
Thanks!

Like lucimay said there are no poetry rules - which is why I find poetry so enticing. It is difficult to explain how I write poetry. so you will not like the answer. It just come bursting out based on a emotional moment. Most of the time I find it easier to write sad or reflective poetry. When I try to write happy or romantic etc I feel too Hallmarkish and end up mostly tossing it - lol.

As far as meter. like I said I write from emotion and so the meter just kind of exists based on that emotional moment. If I "feel" a pause in the emotion a line in the poetry has something that expresses the pause. As Lucimay says look at non conventional poets. I read a LOT of e e Cummings as a teenager. His stuff to me is amazing.

Lucimay! great poetry and thanks for posting some here! I am glad you joined here and hope others post some as well! Sorus give it a shot!!

Move On

Sometimes you are broken
the tunnel ahead dark

you keep walking
- because you must -

you trip and fall
life demands you get up

you look back
- because you doubt -

grey skies
bearing down on you

your mind will not
give you solace

you look down
- because you're giving up -

breathe deeply
hear the air ring your ears

step
step
step

you keep moving
- because you are trying -

next silence

you can cry
not in sadness
no touch your tears
the relief is there

you lift your head
- because there is hope -

a small light beacons
- that is the end

it is there

you walk proudly
- because you are -

this moment
touch it
feel it
live it

move on.

Ok a stab at a "romantic' poem one that I didn't toss - lol

Tenderness
Tenderness falls
like a soft feather
my embrace will soften your soul

Tenderness calls
stand up and listen
my embrace is meant to hold

Tenderness galls
when it is forgotten
my embrace longs to hold you

Tenderness has walls
when it was broken
my embrace seeks to find you

Tenderness calls
give it a hand
my embrace will remind you

Tenderness falls
and loves completely
my embrace will show you

Tenderness calls
when tenderness falls
my embrace breaks down those walls

My embrace will be there
when tenderness calls
Not every person is going to understand you and that's okay. They have a right to their opinion and you have every right to ignore it.

Sightings II

Douglas Ray Tucker stands before me
in ballcap and grin, hair nappy,
clothes lurched all to one side,
holding a cup, and says
jus' 'cause you have a cup don't mean nuthin',
I'm a man!
I'm tryin' to make some progress here.
I'm from Florida.
People different here.
People don't see nuthin' but the cup.
Butchoo a different kinda woman, he says.
I got a sister wears glasses, he says.
You might wear glasses,
butchoo see better than most!
There is a God, he says.
We might meet each other
another time down the road!
Faith before reason, he says,
and keeps on grinning,
faith before reason.
you're more advanced than a cockroach,
have you ever tried explaining yourself
to one of them?

i've had this with actors before, on the set,
where they get upset about the [size of my]
trailer, and i'm always like...take my trailer,
cause... i'm from Kentucky
and that's not what we brag about.

"I wish for you..."
Comfort on difficult days, Smiles when sadness intrudes,
Rainbows to follow the clouds, Laughter to kiss your lips, Sunsets to warm your heart,
Gentle hugs when spirits sag, Friendships to brighten your being,
Beauty for your eyes to see, Confidence for when you doubt, Faith so that you can believe,
Courage to know yourself, Patience to accept the truth, And love to complete your life.

Like to the falling of a star, or as the flight of eagles are,
or like the fresh springs gaudy hue, or the silver drops of morning dew,
or like the wind that chafes the flood, or bubbles which on water stands...
Even such is man, who borrows light, is straight called in, and paid to night...
The wind blows out, the bubbles die, the spring entombed in autumn lies,
the dew dries up, the star is shot, the flight is past, and man forgot.

A rock rotates around the sun, it once offered life which has since gone.
It circles darkness all alone, and for humanity gives no home.
No more do animals safely wander, no more does it rain or roll its thunder.
It no longer makes a solitary sound, it simply rotates its bare earth ground.
Desert sands now rule this rock, whilst other planets stare and mock.
The earth is drained of all that it holds, due to mindless insensitive greedy souls.

In the beginning they took, Took what they needed to survive,
Took what they needed to stay alive. Then one day they took for gain,
forsaking all others pain. No warnings did they heed, blinded by insatiable greed.
Then one day they took it all, and man's empire it did fall.
