Does ANyone else think....

that the name Lord Foul is a little ummmm cheesy? I mean NO DISRESPECT, because the TC series is the best book(series) I HAVE EVER READ. I love theother names, but about didnt read the series cause I thought the LFB title a little 7th graderish(kinda like the word graderish
Anyway this is not flamebait or a knock (well I guess kinda a knock) but wondered why Lord Foul?? and not just go with the many other suitable names

The name, Lord Foul, itself, inspired me to start the Chrons. I was a sophomore in college, I wasn't in 7th grade!

I know what you mean Brinn. I feel similar. I've always been partial to somthing that has an aire of power, somthing dark, and forceful. Like A-Jeroth of the seven hells. That one is pretty gnarly if you ask me. There's like 5 or 6 names for Foul. But yeah, Lord Foul just seems a bit immature, like having the good guy be named, The Lord of LIGHT!!! IGHT...IGHT..ight..ight.....ight.... Little echo there. heh. I gotcha Brinn. Talk to you later.

I think "Lord Foul" is a pretty wimpy name. I think "Lord Foul the Despiser" is an awesome name. There's something cool about the quintessence of someone's evil being despite.

Yes, I like Lord Foul the Despiser, the Gray Slayer and a-Jeroth, as well as Fangthane the Render (My fav), I just thought Drool Rockworm was kinda lame.....

I know what you're saying, BotH. But you have to remember that "lord foul" isn't his real name, it's what the lords called him (he was grey slayer to all the stowndowners and people, IIRC). And obviously, they are going to give to give him a name that is obviously bad. I mean, do you think the "axis of evil" named themselves that?

My choice as well--in fact, I tend to use "Corruption" more often than the orthodox terms to refer to the Christian Satan; and the corresponding pronoun is not "he" but "it."

(M. Scott Peck in People of the Lie explains that throughout his book he refers to Satan as "it" because gender implies sexuality, a potentially creative capacity, and evil is privatio boni, the lack of any potential good.)

I often think in "Haruglish" otherwise in the spiritual domain these days. What hath SRD wrought

SRD's writing provokes lots of thought and insight into my own life and the present world.

Would you read a book called... "A-Jeroth's Bane"??

Hello Seafoam, you are right, I wouldn't read a book named A-Jeroth's Bane. I don't mind the title, I just prefer somthing with a bit more punch. Then again, if Lord Foul we're named somthing else the title would probably have been different, "Lord Foul's Bane" does have a certain cadence to it, and works well though. And after reading some more of the names, I think my favorite is probably Fangthane the Render, that's good.

I also like the point made by Ihadnoname, that Lord Foul was more of a title than a name, that the peoples of the land had differing and more fitting names for him.

Very good points by all---in fact upon further reflection I see you point about the Lords titling him this, hence the LORD part (LOL). Maybe I should make a new thread............in fact I will. Thanks for the inspiration and again this thread was meant as no disrespect to SRD or the series
