Game shows: TV in its most banal, yet most democratic form?

How often do you watch these shows and go: Hey, I know the answer! I can't believe that moron contestant doesn't know!

So...what game shows do you enjoy or have enjoyed? Could be past or present.

I haven't watched that many over the years, but these I like:

Jeopardy
Family Feud
Who Wants To Be A Millionaire
Hollywood Squares
Scrabble

I used to like watching MAtch Game. Half the celebrity guests were drunk.

Hollywood squares can be funny.

Scrabble is a game show now?! When did that happen 8O It must be painful to watch.

Anyhow, I'd have to go with Jeopardy.

You forgot Wheel of Fortune and The Price is Right (My english teacher was on that a long time ago, and she won't let you forget it)

Jeopardy (what is up with the avg contestants these days, anyway? over twice the money potential, and most of the winners are still averaging 10k a game). Ben Stein's money used to be good, too. However, I absolutely cannot stand Millionaire. There's so little real trivia involved. It's all about building that moment... more about the vicarious thrill than knowledge

Others... Price is Right is just standard. Beat the Geeks, first season. Remote Controll. Idiot Savants. Double Dare. Press Your Luck (renamed to Whammies or something like that later, I believe).
"It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”

My impression was that Scrabble (as hosted by Chuck Woolery) had been around for a while; it just never attained the huge popularity of something like Jeopardy or Wheel of Fortune. And hey--it wasn't painful to watch! No bonus 50 points for you, Leper Fairy! ;)

Jeopardy, hands down.

I used to hate Hollywood Squares but have recently seen some old re-runs - the jokes that went over my head as a child are hilarious now! But I still can't stand Paul Lynn and Charles Nelson Riley.

I used to watch Scrabble with da Chuckster back in the 80's. I rather liked it.
