Newcome and some fan art!

Post by Dutch »

Hi there, folks! I was thrilled to find that there was an actual Stephen R. Donaldson website. I had no idea... And a forum! Delightful!

So, my name's David. And I am pleased to see so many other readers of such a great author.

I am also on a Yahoo group dedicated to the author as well, so some of you might recognize me and the posts I made on there concerning some fan art I did. I would just like to share with everyone else here and get their opinions on my work-in-progress attempts at capturing the Gap Cycle story.

The first picture can be found here: www.foxden.net/~dutch/TRS.html

Second one is at www.foxden.net/~dutch/ADAHGA.html

I intend to have more done hopefully in the future, but again, I figured I'd share just because it's a fun thing to do!

Take care, everyone, and have a nice day!

Hey Dutch,

Nice work. I think I've seen your art before. If I recall someone here at the Watch may have posted a link to it before. Look forward to talking about SRD w/ you... Be Welcome.
War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself. Why, thank ya!

Glad to be a part of the forum, folks.

Thanks for the input on the work! I have more I'd like to do for the SRD books, but there's so many good (and difficult) scenes to conceive on paper.

I hope to start making some obscure, but funny references to Donaldson's work in my comic.

I had a cameo of Harlan Ellison in my strip once, to whom I sent the original. Would you believe the guy called me?? He was pretty thankful, and I was just floored. I plan to do the same for SR just 'cause! :)

Here's how I kind of imagined Angus to appear. Let me know what y'all think. :)

And the SR Donaldson group is right here: groups.yahoo.com/group/stephenrdonaldson/

It's kinda quiet, though.

Cool, thanks, man!

Glad to see such a friendly forum here. Sadly, that's pretty rare in and of itself. But then...this is an SRD forum, and SRD stories have class, therefore, this forum has class! And I like it! ;)

Great stuff, Dutch. I'd like to see your idea of Nick. Or Mikka and her "assertive hips" ;)

Hmm!

I've actually been thinking of what Mikka would look like.

Nick for some reason, is hard for me to visualize. Not sure why...

He's pretty clear in my head, but being neither an artist nor a writer that image will probably stay in my head.

I'm not sure if SRD describes whether his scars are above or below the cheekbones... I imagine them being above, just below the eyes, where the flesh is tender. I can see those kind of scars getting dark with blood.

Mikka?

Post by Dutch »

I had just read your post and decided to see if I could conceptualize Mikka. www.foxden.net/~dutch/Mikka.JPG

By the way, how the heck do you pronounce her last name??

It sounds Polish. I wanna say 'Va-sesk', but it seems wrong. 'Va-seck', maybe?

He has all kindsa odd names in those stories. :)

Wow, those muscular legs remind me of Robert Crumb's art. A lot less scary though :)

No idea on the last name - I'd like to know how to pronounce that too!

It's always fun to see someone's depiction of SRD's characters/scenes/whatever. It's one of those things I'd try my hand at if I had any talent :D

Good work on everything, even if it doesn't always match my mental image (I always thought your Holt's facial expression belonged on Hashi :) )

SRD actually e-mailed me about it and said he liked the art, but *no* depiction of his writing is ever what he himself imagined. Fair enough. :) Either way,it's not everyday a writer inspires me this much. Goes to show how much how influential a writer can be.

Well, congrats! I guess it's a nice feeling to get recognized by the author himself.
