I appreciate the video links, Sarge! I especially liked the video for "We Can Work It Out", which I didn't know about.

And speaking of "Baby's In Black". I really enjoy the vocal harmony they do in the lines, "Oh, how long will it take, 'til she sees the mistake..."
for sure; their harmonies in general (and I do love the harmony you mentioned more specifically, too) really elevate the material and take it over the top.

Have you read 'Revolution in the Head' www.amazon.com/Revolution-Head-Beatles- ... 1556527330 Cord Hurn?
great book; I highly recommend it - features a long dissertation on the 60's and the Beatles role during the period, and then goes on to analyse and critique every one of their songs.
The author Ian MacDonald (who tragically committed suicide) is extremely insightful, and, whilst being a huge Beatles fan himself, is not adverse to dishing out some well-argued criticism where he thinks it's warranted - I don't always agree with his views, but he absolutely makes you think about things in a new light and has some incredible insights into their process ...
anyway, might be a bit much for some, but I loved it, have a copy sitting in my bathroom and you can easily pick it up and open to any page and just start reading (although I reckon I've memorized most of the book by now).
It does indeed cover the Beatles songs really thoroughly, SleeplessOne! Thanks!
I'm reading Shout! by Norman Phillip at the moment, it is ridiculously thorough biography of the Beatles and very well written ...

It is soooooooooooooooooooooooooo not punk to like the Beatles. I say that because I find it stupid of the people I have known that have held that sentiment, who dislike the Beatles for only that reason.

I'm not a huge Beatles fan, but I've always liked them. It was one of the first bands I explored on my own from checking out their albums from the library as a kid. And the Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band soundtrack (with the Bee Gees and Peter Frampton) was the first album I contributed money to buy. I still like a version or two from that overall terrible soundtrack better than the original. The ones I'd admit to are the songs George Burns did, such as Fixing A Hole. Probably because some of the songs were the first versions I heard, and sometimes the first trumps the others. I also, despite not really like Aerosmith, like their version of Come Together.

It's probably heretical to say so in this thread, but I have always liked hearing Aerosmith's cover of "Come Together" better than hearing the Beatles' original version.

No The Beatles thread yet? At least, a search didn't bring one up. Feel free to move it I somehow overlooked it.

It's funny to me that I love the Beatles and grew up listening to them but very rarely have I seen them in video.

And Ringo doesn't get enough love.
I like all his stuff.

Not a fan of Lennon solo stuff though.

Harrison's solo stuff I enjoy more and more as I get older for some reason (except Apple Scruffs, that shit is horrible :D )

McCartney..... I think I really liked his solo (Wings) stuff when I was a teenager because now I always say that I like it but when I listen to it I really don't think much of it.

I'd like to watch that. It could send me on a Beatles binge!

I like Lennon's stuff mostly (from memory). Haven't heard much of the other solo work.

George Harrison's All Things Must Pass is a must have. As is most of Paul's Wings material. John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band (the first album) as well.

When we finish the Floyd discography, I'd love to do a Beatles review with you.

The Vespers subforum has had a Beatles thread since March 2003, created by the former Lord Foul. It is regrettable that the Search function didn't turn it up for you, Menolly. Click on the name below to get to it:

(Nevertheless, having more than one thread dedicated to the Beatles certainly doesn't hurt anything. After all, this subforum has multiple threads dedicated to both Pink Floyd and Rush.)

We have mods who can achieve the merging of multiple threads devoted to convergent topics. I'd not expect the senior mod of Vespers to do so (would be great if he could!), but Luci or Stevie might.
