If a tree falls in the woods...
...and there's no one around to hear it

...not even a small-eared squirel named Jack, and a rabid moon wolf with ants crawling around on it... being watched by a wise old owl...being sized up by a stalking boa constrictor... in a bed of porcupine needles...a wombat...and a large pregnant bear.... complete with mohawk.....and a medium-sized Swedish child.....with a green frog...with an extra leg...and a large possum...and a boy named Sue...with a keloid on his right ear, standing next to a man named ted who recently changed his last name to DeBear... FIVE GOLDEN RINGS!!!...or even a belligerent badger

...does it still make a sound?

Humorist Will Rogers, November 27, 1932: “The money was all appropriated for the top in the hopes that it would trickle down to the needy. Mr. [Herbert] Hoover was an engineer. He knew that water trickled down. Put it uphill and let it go and it will reach the driest little spot. But he didn’t know that money trickled up. Give it to the people at the bottom and the people at the top will have it before night anyhow. But it will at least have passed through the poor fellow’s hands.”

Dungeons & Dragons is famous for being a game with a lot of complicated rules. How strict your campaign is when it comes to the rules-as-written will entirely depend on your DM's style and the general feel at the table, and a lot of parties opt for their own personalized guidelines called house rules. These unofficial inclusions let players tailor the D&D rulebook to suit the exact kind of game they want to run. What's your favorite D&D house rule?
