Hail!!!

My name is Brooke and my mom is Furls Fire here on the Watch. I'm going to be 14 next month and a freshman in high school next year!! I'm sooooooooooooooooo very happy about that! It's going to ROCK!! :D :D

Some of the things I love to do are reading, listening to music, art, camping, skiing, snowboarding, soccer, basketball, spending time with my family and friends, meeting new people, helping people in need (I get that from my mom), and just plain living life everyday to its fullest (I get that from my Uncle Steve). 8)

My mom is finally letting me read the Chronicles of Thomas Covenant, books she first read over 20 years ago when she was my age. I now know why she loves them so much and has re-read them over and over again. I'm just now starting on The Wounded Land, mom says be prepared to be devastated... sigh :( But, she assures me that the ending (non-ending as she puts it) is just as wonderful as the finish of the First Chronicles. :D
For Myles--
When evening shadows and the stars appear
And there is no one to dry your tears
I could hold you for a million years
To make you feel my love

For Mom--
Did you ever know that you're my hero,
and everything I would like to be?
I can fly higher than an eagle,
for you are the wind beneath my wings.

Fly...fly high against the sky...
Thank you, thank you, thank God for you
The wind beneath my wings

Welcome Fire...

You have a very special family. We are honored to have you as one of us.
War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself. Hail, and welcome, Fire Daughter. Your mother is a very much admired person here I have seen.
I am new here too, and old enough to be your grandmother. One thing we all have in common here is that we love the Chronicles. I am happy you are reading them. My 12 year old grand daughter is going to read them she tells me. Maybe I can get her to join as well.

Your avatar is just beautiful. Glad you are here.

So...not having browsed this thread for a while, I check in out of curiosity and what do I see? One of Furls Fire's own has joined the Watch!

Hail, Fire Daughter! It's awesome to have you here! :welcome:

The Wounded Land...yes, the title sums it up. Hope you like the book, Fire. (Hehe, maybe 'like' is the wrong word to use.) Looking forward to your thoughts on TWL and the rest of the Chronicles. 8)

And a BIG welcome to Cate, Ninquelote and all the others that have joined since I last came around! (Which was maybe 100 years ago in Land time. )

Greetings, my name's Nathan Miles. I'm 17 years old and I've read all of Donaldson's books with the exception of the "Man who..." books, which I will be reading as soon as I get the chance and the Daughter of Regals collection.
I was introduced first to The Gap about 5 years ago by my stepfather, I read through the whole thing within a couple of weeks and thought it was brilliant, and it remains my second favourite story of all time (My favourite is The Killing Stroke). After I was done with The Gap I read all the other Donaldson books I could find, Mordant's need, Covenant and then Reave the just and other tales. It's amazing that one author can write such consistently excellent stories.
But it wasn't until recently that I found out that my uncle is also a big fan of Covenant. He informed me, to my subsequent delight, that Donaldson was writing a Third Chronicles of Thomas Covenant and directed me here. I just wish it had been sooner.

Hey Nathan, is your uncle a member here, and if so, who is he?

I'm not sure whether my uncle is a member. But if he is I'm sure he'll notice me and tell you.

Furl, does that make you and me the only KW moms who have daughters on the forum? ;)

Welcome, Firedaughter! :)

And welcome, Nathan. :)
Wow, your stepdad let you read the Gap series when you were 12? 8O (If you are 17 now and read it 5 years ago, that's right, isn't it?) I think I'm shocked. ;)

Enjoy the Watch, it's great. :D

well, he didn't exactly let me, I kind of secretly did it when he wasn't watching, then after I'd finished The Real Story he had a go at me and told me I shouldn't have read it at my age, but since I'd already read the worst one he let me read the rest.

Yes, well, I'll agree that The Real Story has the worst of the sexual violence. I haven't let my teens read it yet - I read the whole series myself and then hid it. ;) But now my daughter says she doesn't want to read it anyway, even though she just turned 18, cause what little she's heard about the violence in the story just doesn't appeal to her.
