Why the Godfather Matters?
Why does the Godfather Matter? If you are a man, you must see this movie. It is the ultimate guide to being a man's kind of man. Embrace your masculinity, and watch this movie.
Hmm, I was just sitting down talking on the phone with a cousin of mine who is now 17, and he's never seen "The Godfather" and I seriously wanted to cry. I mean, if you are a guy, you have to see this movie, life lessons, romance, politics, money, how to be suave and smooth, it instills in all of us guys, a sense of this is what it is to be tough, to be a man's man, to know how it is.
I mean, look at what you learn.
"I have a sentimental weakness for my children and I spoil them as you can see. They talk when they should listen."
- Don Corleone -
"A man who doesn't spend time with his family can never be a real man."
- Don Corleone to Johnny Fontane -
"Leave the gun. Take the cannoli."
- Clemenza to Rocco -
"Fredo, you're my older brother, and I love you. But don't ever take sides with anyone against the family again. Ever."
- Michael to Fredo -
"My father is no different than any other powerful man -- any man who's responsible for other people, like a senator or president." - Michael Corleone
"You know how naive you sound...senators and presidents don't have men killed." - Kay
"Oh, who's being naive, Kay?" - Michael Corleone
- Michael and Kay conversing -
"It's not personal, it's business"
- Michael Corleone -
"In Sicily, women are more dangerous than shotguns."
- Fabrizio -
"Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Wednesday, Friday, Sunday, Saturday."
I mean, so mcuh to learn from this film. So if you havne't seen this movie, and you're a guy, do yourself a favor, go become enlightened, become a real man's man. It's almost sacriligous to not know these quotes, to not know this ultimate guy film. They're out in a nice DVD pack, comentary by Francis Ford Coppola, and Mario Puzo, lots of interviews with the actors. I mean, Al Pacino, come on............

Amen, Fiz. Glad someone acknowledges and appreciates great cinema when they see it. And then others just watch 2 Fast 2 Furious.
Part 2 is in my top 5 favorite movies. I got part 1, love it a lot. Just waiting for Part 2 to be released separately on DVD.
I find other films that help me get in touch with my sensitive side are: A Clockwork Orange, Apocalypse Now, Seven Samurai, Taxi Driver, and One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.

I freak people out cause, they say, I sound just like Marlon Brando (I can do a great: "I should have been a contender")--and I do a damm good amount of killer impersonations: Kwik-e-Mart guy Abu, Boris Karloff, Foglorn Leghorn, Bela Legosi, The Inspector (in the Pink Panther cartoons--and needless to say-Peter Sellers) Sean Connery, Daffy Duck, Tweety Bird, Quickdraw Mcgraw, Alfred Hitchcock, Elmer Fudd, Don Adams (Tennesse Tuxedo), Arnold Swartzenegger, Mickey Rourke...etc...but everytime I try to do Brando as Corleone it comes out pure crap!

fall far and well Pilots!

Hey Foul, that's a nice list. I also include The Warriors. "Warriors. Come out to play-ee-ay!"
Anyway, yes, you can't do any better than Godfather. But I'm probably the only person who likes #3. It definitely had some great moments anyway, though it isn't the masterpieces of 1 & 2.

Back to the Godfather.
John Cazale is my favorite actor and Part 2 is my favorite of the trilogy because of the following lines:
John Cazale is my favorite actor and Part 2 is my favorite of the trilogy because of the following lines:
Fredo: I didn't know it was going to be a hit, Mike. I swear to God I didn't know it was going to be a hit. Johnny Ola bumped into me in Beverly Hills and he said that he wanted to talk. He said that you and Roth were in on a big deal together and that there was something in it for me if I could help him out. He said that you were being tough on the negotiations but if they could get a little help they'd close the deal fast. It'd be good for the Family...He said there was something in it for me on my own!
Michael: I've always taken care of you, Fredo.
Fredo: Taken care of me! You're my kid brother, you take care of me? Did ya ever think about that, huh? Did ya even once think about that? Send Fredo off to do this! Send Fredo off to do that! Let Fredo take care of some Mickey Mouse nightclub somewhere! Send Fredo to pick somebody up at the airport! I'm your older brother, Mike; and I was stepped over.
Mike: It was the way Pop wanted it.
Fredo: It ain't the way I wanted it! I can handle things; I'm smart. Not like everybody says like dumb; I'm smart, and I want respect!
Michael: Is there anything you can tell me about this investigation? Any more?
Fredo: The Senate lawyer, Questadt, he belongs to Roth.
Michael: Fredo, you're nothing to me now. You're not a brother, you're not a friend. I don't want to know you or what you do. I don't want to see you at the hotels. I don't want you near my house. When you see our mother I want to know a day in advance so I won't be there. You understand?
Fredo: Mikey...
