Which Human Race Would You be??

If you could belong to one of the races/cultures of the humans of the land, which would you choose and why??

It should come as no surprise that I picked the Haruchai. (And, oh, doesn't it break my heart to see it spelled wrong!! heh) As I argued when I first started hanging out here, I choose to believe that they were originally closer to normal humans, but pure in their discipline, truth, willingness to face things, etc. And then the Earthpower noticed the Truth emanating from the Westron Mts, checked out the cause, and decided that their strength of character deserved a similar strength of body. And that's why they don't need to stand on stone when the Sunbane comes, and they weren't exhausted after going through Morrinmoss, and why Mhoram said "In their way they know the name of the Earthpower more surely than any Lord."

And that's why I chose the Haruchai.

I picked Stonedowner probably because it most closely fits how I am now. I don't think I'd have the agility to run around in the Woodhelvins anyway, though I really do like trees.

I'm not sure the Haruchai should be considered human.

They were as strong as giants. They could could go without
sleep for extended periods of time. They were immune to the
Sunbane.

In their way, they may be as inhuman as the Elohim.

Well, natural selection certainly played a part. Life in the Westron Mountains is extremely difficult, after all. But it's their Faith that really makes the difference. Absolute faith in themselves - their ability, the correctness of their choices. And this is also the result of natural selection in those mountains. If you doubt, you hesitate, and you're dead. And you cannot rely on anything but yourself. This purity of character allows them to use the Earthpower more efficiently (if unconsciously). Or, as I like to think, it impressed the Earthpower so much that the Earthpower gives more of itself to them than other races.

Either way, if other humans had the same mindset, the Earthpower would embrace them as well. But they don't have the same history and circumstances, so they don't, as a whole, have the same relationship with the Earthpower. Some individuals may.

No, the Bloodguard did the thousands of years. But the Haruchai of the 2nd chronicles seemed able to go without sleep comfortably for, what, many days. If not the whole damned time! I think that's what Kaos meant.

I chose Giant despite my love for the Haruchai. The Haruchai devotion and fidelity are easy to admire from afar but to actually have to make those kind of sacrifices...I don't think I could. The Giants were more easy going but could rise to any challenge when the need arises. Emotional, strong and with a love for friends and family.

Got my threads mixed up. The giants would actually be my favorite non-human race. If I had to choose a human race I would probably go with Ramen. Their skill, self-assuredness and indepedence are all admirable.

I've had similar feelings. I've said that, despite my username, the Giants are my favorites. More well-rounded, laughter, all that. But championing the Haruchai is a wonderful thing to do. Which explains my title, Zen Master. I admire the Zen mind very much, but I think it goes too far. Beethoven's music, particularly his late compositions, could not have been composed by a Zen Master. Zen produces serene beauty. Beethoven gave us triumph in the face of things like terrible angst and anger.

All Haruchai are Zen Masters. Why did Mistweave come up short when he tried to match Cail? Because he tried so hard! "I can do it! I can do it! I can defeat sleep!" Like Don Shimoda said in Illusions, negative attachments are attachments. Cail just does it. He stays up for days at a time the same way he eats - he just does it. No effort, no worry, no doubt.

Fist is right. That's what I meant. We never saw the Haruchai sleep or
eat at all that I can recall.

I don't think that Fist is right here. I don't think any person of the Land
could have duplicated the Haruchai's gifts... I think that's like saying a
regular horse could have duplicated the Ranyhn's gifts if it just had a
Ranyhn's mindset.

The Haruchai were a different breed than a regular Land person.

Hmm... unless maybe Berek Halfhand's battle prowess actually WERE
as good as Atirian's song said ...
