Land to Earth time ratios

Post by Lord Mhoram »

Hell, its been a whopping 3 months without me reading Thomas Covenant, I need an exact or general Land-time to Earth-time ratio! As in: 1 Land year=2 Earth weeks.

Sounds like working out time zones between me and Sky!

Hmm, I don't think there ratio is constant... and since one day here is such a long time in the Land, we'd need much more exact dates than the books provide, down to how many hours and minutes passed here.

I agree with you Sevotharte. I am just no rereading the second chronicles and the general assumption there is that in the intervening 10 years of earth time; 3500 to 4000 years have passed in the Land.

This gives us a ratio of 350 to 400 in time differential. But if this were true the 10 seconds that Covenant used to convince Mhoram to send him back at the beginning of TPTP would stretch to...66 minutes...of earth time. It did not.

Since roughly 3500 years passed between 1st and 2nd Chronicles in hte Land, while 10 years passed in the "real world", I guess that 1 day = 1 year would not be too far off.

Hmm, how much time passed between Tommy's first and second trip to the Land? I think it was about 40 years in the Land, but much less than 40 days in our world.

I believe that it was at least a month. I'd have to find TIW and go over it again.

Either you are all as unobservant as I am when writing or you are just very polite. :)

However it is completely wrong of me to say that the time would stretch to one hour. Because it is the other way around; 10 seconds of earth time would stretch to 1 hour of land time.

I hate making mistakes like that.

it was 47 years in the Land and 2 , 2 1/2 weeks here. If you remember, he got back , farted around for 2 weeks, then burnt his books, trashed his house and went out on the lash to a club. Came home, off to the Land.

3 weeks max
