Song Of The South; anybody remember it?

Post by dANdeLION »

I do, and I loved it as a kid. Not all like it, though. It has been banned in the US for quite a while, due to the slavery depicted in the film. I, for one, think that Uncle Remus was one of the finest men, ever. What a kind and gentle spirit he had. If anything, he proved that slavery diminished only those who used the chains, not those in chains. Anyway, I'm a whitey, so my opinion on this certainly doesn't hold much weight.

Tell me if she laughs or cries
Blow away dandelion

I'm afraid there's no denying
I'm just a dandelion
a fate I don't deserve.

I do in fact remember the film although I can't ever remember liking it in any strong way. My favorite childhood Disney film was the Jungle Book. Scenes and songs from Song of the South have routinely appeared on Disney sing along songs tapes and clip shows.

Yeah I remember it. The animated parts were quite good but I really think the live action parts, especially with that annoying kid, were crap.

Zippa dee do da, zippa dee ay is listed on AFI's Top 100 songs of the past 100 years of film making.

Great movie, and it hasn't been banned. It's available for sale all over the 'net. As Disney likes to do, it cycles their films in and out of print on home video, and it's currently out of print. There's supposed to be a 60th anniversary release this Fall.

Last time I saw it was in 1986 when it was theatrically rereleased.

I used to work in video retail and Disney is well know for limited releases. They release a film for a period of time, up to 2 years I think, and then they pull it back. Years later they will reissue the film, but with something different either in content or packaging. First editions are worth more than reissues. Really what Disney is doing is creating an artificial collectors market.

I downloaded it off the web a few years ago.

Um... are you sure you people who are saying it's a good movie really remember the movie very well

It bored me to tears and I'm a big Disney fan (DVC Member too).
And the great "zippedy do-da" song isn't until the very end if I remember correctly.

Now, Splash Mountain, on the other hand, kicks butt!!
You'll being singing that song for the rest of the day after that ride.

I love DisneyWorld.
