Sorry, I can't explain Whelan's art for "Runes." He does what are considered "symbolic" covers: they don't illustrate a scene from the book; instead they're intended to *evoke* the book in a general sense. But once you've read "Runes," you'll be able to appreciate Whelan's concept. In the meantime, I can assure you that the white animal is NOT a "poodle." <grin> Merciful Heavens, what will you people think of next?
AH HA!
This must be the fell 'PoodleBane' we've been hearing about the Despiser unleashing upon the Land in the Last Chronicles! You thought the Illearth Stone was bad? The Clave? Ravers (with their green, illearth glo-sticks)? The Sunbane? pah!, i spit like Pietten. You just wait. The POODLEBANE I say!
A fundamental corruption of the Law of Dogs, this is an animal SO cute, SO adorable, and so French ... think on it -- and be dismayed! (reek of ATTAR, fade to black)
When you're done with 'Runes' ... check out www.pocketandpendant.com ... like a small, minty refreshment after the Main Course has been served!
Perhaps the people of the Land started a breeding program to cross the remaining coursers with normal (or even toy) poodles (in order to help reduce their size. Full-sized coursers must eat a LOT).

Looking through the preview chapter, the time ratio seems to have been maintained:
Spoiler
"Ten years ago, Joan had been snatched from Thomas Covenant’s care by a group of people who were--in the county’s eyes--demonstrably insane."
I think you're bang on about a TC resurrection, although I doubt it'll be in the real world. Firstly, Foul needs to get him out of the way of his next Arch-busting assault. And secondly, it'd be a bit ripe calling the series "The Last Chronicles of Thomas Covenant" if he's dead in the books - it'd be like the last ten years of Taggart!
Thanks for making me come correct on the time business. I would have discovered my own error in recollection however...in a mtter of hours! I am a mere 40 pages from the end of TPtP and will begin TWL!
Thank you Furls, it was something I thought of while preparing my dissection on TOT - truth be told, I had almost thought it wouldn't appear - it's been submitted one month ago I should have taken into account the amount of previous questions poor SRD had to answer first!
That was a great question, Xar. Someone told me once (perhaps Romeo?) that SRD views these questions when they come in, but some take longer to answer because he has to formulate the answer in his mind first - thus to the strength of your question!
He hasn't been answering questions lately. I guess he's working on that big project for his publisher he'd mentioned.
I asked a couple questions / comments about Gap, and the Killing Stroke. Now I'm just wondering if the lack of response (I sent it in a couple weeks ago) is because of volume or because my questions were uninteresting

I've recongized Xar potential from the start
I sent him pms on his excellent posts when he first arrived here. No suprise to me that his questions blew SRD away at all. He's a very intelligent person.
Things have certainly slowed down on the SRD website and the GI. I have to admit that I'm disappointed b/c I was learning so much from what he was sharing with us, but I'm also glad b/c that means that he's working on the secret project that he mentioned several weeks ago, and perhaps he's also working on Fatal Revenant.

No, they are not the same. At the Elohimfest dinner he told us he had not yet started the second book, as his time was being consumed with the secret project.

Secret project? What is he doing trying to genetically engineer standard poodles and War horses so that the thing on the Cover of Runes can actually be drawn from a relatively real reality?
In the revised version, Covenant wakes up at the end in bed beside Suzanne Pleshette--no! I mean Joan--and says to her: "Honey, I just had the strangest dream..."
LOL Neo!! That's actually how I think the Last Chrons is going to end... Tommy waking up next to Joan, with infant Roger sleeping in the next room at Haven Farm...
And I believe in you
altho you never asked me too
I will remember you
and what life put you thru.
